SBS’s show “Unanswered Questions”aired an episode on the 22nd that investigated the perplexing case of the stolen safe belonging to Goo Hara.
Following the passing of Goo Hara, an individual entered her Cheongdam-dong residence in Seoul and took a personal safe containing her mobile phone.
On November 24, 2019, Goo Hara tragically took her own life. Despite being in the midst of promoting a new album in Japan, she made a brief return to Korea and shared a short message on her official social media account the day before, saying, “Good night.”
Just hours later, on the 24th, she shared a post on a secret account, exclusively accessible to her close friends, expressing her fear.
Her friends left reassuring messages such as “Sister, I am here. You can always rely on your strong sister,”and “Don’t be afraid, silly. I will always be by your side. Remember us,”but shortly after, news of her passing spread.
Only a brief note was discovered at the site of her passing, and there was no evidence of a suicide note.
Nevertheless, Goo Hara’s older brother, Goo Ho-in, revealed that their long-time housekeeper had mentioned Hara had written a will “just in case.”
Moreover, it was revealed that the day before her passing, Goo Hara had contacted her close acquaintance, Ms. Hwang. Ms. Hwang, a central figure in the “Burning Sun”controversy, opened up about her conflicting emotions in an interview with the producers of the show.
Upon reflection, Ms. Hwang revealed, “Hara had actually reached out to me on that day. She proposed grabbing dinner together, but at the time I was enjoying a beer with a non-celebrity friend and didn’t want to make Hara feel uncomfortable. I suggested meeting on my birthday instead and ended the call. The next morning, I was devastated to learn of her tragic passing.”
She conveyed her feeling of accountability for Goo Hara’s passing.
Ms. Hwang recounted, “The individuals who were apprehended experienced a tremendous amount of remorse and conveyed sincere sympathies upon learning of Hara’s decision. Despite not being directly involved, I would have still reported the burglary of her safe if I had been aware of it.”
Goo Hara took on a crucial role in exposing information about the “Burning Sun”scandal by directly reaching out to a journalist with pertinent details.
The term “Burning Sun”is used to describe the various offenses, such as sexual assault and the distribution of illicit videos, that took place at the Burning Sun nightclub located in Gangnam, Seoul.
This has sparked rumors that the robbery of Goo Hara’s safe could potentially be linked to the “Burning Sun”scandal. Despite the fact that the thief did not take any valuable possessions, they did manage to steal a 31kg safe and escape.
At the same time, a composite sketch of the man seen on CCTV during the safe theft was broadcasted on “Unanswered Questions.”
It was hypothesized by experts that the culprit sported an earring on his left ear, was between the ages of late 20s and mid-30s, wore glasses for nearsightedness, and possessed a slim facial structure with a noticeable nose. He was approximated to be around 170 cm tall and had a robust physique.
Investigator Jung Chang-gil, who was previously referred to as the “Montage Specialist,”provided a description of the suspect as having a “long chin and slightly protruding cheekbones.”
