Grand Blue Season 2 has been officially confirmed for production. This exciting announcement was made by the anime’s official team via their website and X (formerly Twitter) account, accompanied by a teaser visual on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Along with the announcement, details about the returning cast and staff members for the series have been disclosed.
Grand Blue Season 2 acts as a sequel to the first installment, which originally aired from July to September 2018, comprising 12 episodes. The anime adapts the popular Japanese manga series of the same name created by Kenji Inoue (author) and Kimitake Yoshioka (illustrator). Kodansha’s Good! Afternoon Magazine has been publishing the manga since April 2014.

On Sunday, September 29, 2024, the staff unveiled the production of Grand Blue Season 2, marking a significant return six years after the conclusion of Season 1. The sequel’s confirmation originally took place during a special radio show celebrating the manga’s 10th anniversary; however, no release date has been provided yet.
A teaser visual has been revealed to celebrate the production of Grand Blue Season 2, showcasing the beloved main cast, including Iori Kitahara, Kohei Imamura, Chisa Kotegawa, and Shinji Tokita, clinking glasses under the warm summer sky.
Furthermore, congratulatory messages and illustrations from the original creators were shared. Kimitake Yoshioka contributed a special illustration featuring Iori, Kohei, and other main characters, commemorating the announcement of Season 2.
In a heartfelt message to fans, author Kenji Inoue expressed his surprise and joy at the enthusiasm for a sequel after all this time. He hopes to share the wonders of the ocean, the value of friendship, the challenges of physical science experiments, and the necessity of staying hydrated with an even larger audience.
Details about the cast and staff members for Grand Blue Season 2 have also been announced. The main cast from the previous season is returning, featuring Yuma Uchida as Iori, Ryohei Kimura as Kohei, Chika Anzai as Chisa, Hiroki Yasumoto as Shinji, Toa Yukinari as Azusa, Katsuyuki Konishi as Ryujiro, Kana Asumi as Aina, and Maaya Uchida as Nanaka.
Moreover, the principal staff from Season 1 will reprise their roles, including director and scriptwriter Shinji Takamatsu, and chief animation director and character designer Hideoki Kusama. Zero-G Studios will collaborate with Liber for the production of the sequel.
The official website and X handle for the comedy anime have also shared comments from director Shinji Takamatsu, along with an illustration from Hideoki Kusama featuring Iori and Kohei reading a magazine. Takamatsu expressed excitement about returning to the franchise for a second season.
While the creative team has not yet released a formal synopsis for Grand Blue Season 2, the story will kick off with Iori receiving a letter from his younger sister, Shiori, after finishing his diving license course in Okinawa.
