As the anticipation for GTA 6 continues to build, one intriguing aspect has captured the gaming community’s attention: the sophisticated jiggle physics featured in the game. This detail has gained considerable traction thanks to discussions led by former Rockstar Games animator Mike York.
York, who has an extensive background working on GTA 5 and GTA Online, recently appeared in a livestream with YouTuber TGG. He elaborated on the advanced mechanics behind the physics showcased in the game’s second trailer, particularly highlighting the popular scene featuring the character Lucia at a boat party.
Insights from an Ex-Rockstar Developer
During the livestream, when questioned about the realism of Lucia’s movements, York provided valuable insights into the technical aspects of the animations. He stated that Rockstar likely implemented a robust bone structure instead of solely depending on traditional cloth simulation methods.
According to York, contemporary character physics typically merges various techniques. For example, ragdoll physics allow developers to assign specific weights and velocities to body parts, enabling the engine to calculate their responses during movement. However, he believes that for Lucia, Rockstar has taken this a step further by enhancing the character’s animation involving multiple bone influences.
“They want to integrate enough bones to affect the jiggle of the butt, ” York explained, emphasizing that each bone plays a crucial role in guiding how the skin responds during physical movements such as walking or turning.“If you were to pull on that character, you’d witness how much it jiggles, ” he added.

York also mentioned that at least one developer was dedicated to perfecting the animation to achieve “just the right amount of jiggle.” He drew parallels to a similar technique used in Red Dead Redemption 2, where bone-driven animation considerably influenced clothing movements, mimicking cloth simulation. For GTA 6, he suspects that Rockstar is adeptly integrating both bone systems and calculated cloth simulation, a combination that undoubtedly contributes to the striking visuals seen in the trailer.
The Ongoing Buzz Around GTA 6
The conversation surrounding GTA 6 doesn’t end with York. Fellow former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij, who served as a technical director, has also weighed in on the setting of the upcoming game.

Vermeij asserts that Rockstar might be limited to American cities, suggesting that a European setting would lack authenticity. He speculated, “They’ll likely revisit New York and might return to LA or even Las Vegas.” His remarks imply a potential cycle of revisiting a handful of American urban landscapes.
As it stands, GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026. Judging by the trailers and various leaks available so far, it appears that Rockstar’s next installment will not only enhance expansive worlds but will also elevate the intricacies that capture players’ attention.
