The eagerly awaited Minecraft Summer Drop is set to introduce some charming new mobs to the already rich and varied blocky universe. While the Nether dimension has previously featured hostile ghasts that launch deadly fireballs at players, the latest update for Summer Drop 2025 gives gamers the chance to find and nurture adorable dried ghast blocks. This engaging journey begins with acquiring your very first dried ghast block. If you’re eager to learn how to obtain one in Minecraft, keep reading for a comprehensive guide.

Acquiring Dried Ghast Blocks in Minecraft

Dried ghast blocks, characterized by their small, grumpy appearance and striking white color, can only be located in the Nether dimension. If you’ve just spawned a new world and can’t find a Ruined Portal nearby, it might be a bit challenging. Ruined Portals, which serve as gateways to the Nether, are surrounded by Netherrack and can be discovered across various Overworld and Nether biomes, excluding the Deep Dark. These portals may be located at ground level or require some exploration to access hidden or submerged sites.

After locating a Ruined Portal, gather some obsidian and flint and steel to activate it. Once you’ve entered the thriving Nether world, follow these three straightforward methods to secure your first dried ghast block in Minecraft:

1. Natural Discovery of Dried Ghast Blocks

Dried ghast blocks naturally occur in the Soul Sand Valleys found throughout the Nether, excluding the Warped Forest biome. These valleys predominantly feature soul sand and soul soil, showcasing a greyish-brown hue.

Once you identify a Soul Sand Valley, look for white Nether fossils. Approaching these fossils will reveal the dried ghasts nestled between the bone blocks. It’s worth noting that there is a 33.3% probability of encountering dried ghast blocks among these fossils, so be sure to search thoroughly!

You can collect these blocks by either breaking them with your hands or using any suitable tool. However, keep an eye out for the local skeletons, which may shoot arrows at you. Carrying a shield is highly recommended for protection during this hunt.

2. Crafting Your Own Dried Ghast Blocks

Another effective means of acquiring dried ghast blocks is through crafting them yourself using resources found in the Nether. For this method, you will need 8 ghast tears and 1 soul sand block. Ghast tears can be obtained by defeating ghasts, while soul sand blocks are available in the Soul Sand Valleys.

Once you have gathered the necessary materials, either craft a new crafting table or utilize an existing one. Position the soul sand block in the center and arrange the ghast tears around it to create one dried ghast block. Refer to the image above for clarity if needed.

3. Bartering with Piglins

Lastly, you can acquire a dried ghast block by bartering with the Piglins inhabiting the Nether. These gold-loving creatures can be found throughout the dimension, but be sure to equip at least one piece of gold armor to avoid hostility.

To initiate bartering, simply toss a gold ingot in front of a Piglin. After a brief while, the Piglin will discard an item in return. There is only a 2.13% chance that this item will be a dried ghast block. Given these slim odds, it may be more efficient to rely on the previous methods for acquiring this unique block.

Now you know how to obtain a dried ghast block in Minecraft! Watering these blocks will transform them into their cheerful counterparts.
