In the world of Digimon, characters’ personalities play a crucial role, particularly in the Digivolution mechanics. This aspect remains integral in Digimon Story: Time Stranger (DSTS), yet modifying these personalities is notably more challenging compared to previous titles.
This guide aims to outline the steps necessary to alter a Digimon’s personality effectively, ensuring you achieve results quickly in DSTS.
Modifying Digimon Personalities in Digimon Story: Time Stranger

There are four primary personality types: Valor, Philanthropy, Wisdom, and Amicability. You can locate these personality traits within the Agent Skills section under the Bonds feature.
Each of these primary personalities can be further broken down into four distinct types, revealing the four core attributes: Affection, Heart, Understanding, and Companionship.
Engaging in dialogue with a Digimon can influence its personality shift, specifically through the lens of these core values. For instance, selecting a response focused on Understanding may encourage a move toward the Wisdom or Philanthropy types, contingent upon the current personality state of the Digimon.
However, relying solely on conversation is not the most efficient method for changing a Digimon’s personality. A more effective approach involves utilizing the DigiFarm.
Accessed via the In-Between Theatre, the DigiFarm allows you to place Digimon in a training environment where you can feed and train them.

Feeding Digimons strengthens their bonds, while training enhances their statistical attributes. Notably, training sessions can also facilitate shifts in personality. You will receive various Training Sets, with each set boosting a specific stat and influencing the personality towards one of the four core values.
For example, the Training Set (Sauna A) not only increases HP but also nudges the personality toward Heart. Thus, if you reference the chart, you will see a rightward shift in their personality.
Training Sets and Their Effects
To clarify how different training sets influence personality shifts, here’s a concise overview:
| Training Set | Stat Boosted | Personality Shift |
| Training Set (Sauna A) | HP | Heart |
| Training Set (Boombox A) | SP | Understanding |
| Training Set (Punching Bag A) | ATK | Heart and Affection |
| Training Set (Club A) | DEF | Heart and Companionship |
| Training Set (Classroom A) | INT | Understanding and Companionship |
| Training Set (Tearoom A) | SPI | Understanding and Affection |
| Training Set (Treadmill A) | SPD | Heart and Companionship |
Initially, this system may seem bewildering. Even if you memorize the correlations, you will often refer back to tables when attempting to change personalities.
Understanding the Directional Changes
To simplify your training strategy, consider this helpful reference:
| Values | Directional Change from the Chart |
| Affection | Up |
| Companionship | Down |
| Heart | Right |
| Understanding | Left |
Example of Personality Shifting
Here’s a practical example of how to implement personality changes:
- Transitioning from a Daring personality to Astute.
- Consult the chart and calculate how many steps to the left, right, up, and down are required. In this scenario, you will need to move down twice and left three times.
- Utilize the Training Set (Classroom A) for two sessions to achieve two downward shifts and two leftward shifts. Complete the process with another left shift using the Training Set (Boombox A).
- Thus, a total of three training sessions is necessary to change from Daring to Astute.
Each training session spans 30 minutes and incurs no cost. If your primary goal centers around increasing stats, you can leave your Digimon in the DigiFarm along with the appropriate Training Set. Additionally, note that Digimons gain experience points while you progress through the storyline.
