Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth represents a significant upgrade compared to its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, particularly in its PC porting experience. Leveraging the capabilities of Unreal Engine, this iteration provides an exceptionally polished version of the game. Gamers can enjoy numerous performance-enhancing settings, including various upscaling technologies; however, the game currently lacks support for ultrawide formats. This limitation is particularly disappointing, though it aligns with a pattern observed in recent Square Enix game releases. Fortunately, a solution is at hand thanks to modder Lyall, who has developed a patch that introduces ultrawide support for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Solving the Ultrawide Challenge in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
In response to community feedback, Lyall has released a comprehensive patch for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This update effectively eliminates the black bars that often plague ultrawide resolutions, corrects the field of view (FOV) for enhanced gameplay, and repositions the HUD for a centered experience optimized for wider screens.
How to Install the Ultrawide Patch
Installing the patch is straightforward. Follow these simple steps:
- Ensure that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is not currently running.
- Visit the GitHub link and select the latest version (0.0.1 as of this writing).
- Download the patch file by clicking on FF7RebirthFix_v0.0.1.zip under assets.
- Extract the contents of the zip file into the game’s installation folder. Typically, this can be found at:

After completing these steps, you will be able to enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in your desired ultrawide resolution upon your next launch. Below is a screenshot from Lyall demonstrating the patch in action.

Special thanks to Lyall for the development and testing of this valuable patch. Their contributions are especially pertinent as the modding community continues to enhance experiences for modern PC game releases, including titles like Thank Goodness You’re Here, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, and Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.
This initial version of the patch primarily adds ultrawide support, adjusts the HUD, and corrects the FOV—features that are considerably beneficial. Looking ahead, we anticipate that Lyall will release updates incorporating even more functionalities to enhance gameplay further. As of January 24, 2025, this patch stands as an essential enhancement for players seeking a more immersive experience in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
