The iconic Chatterwhite shader has made its way back into Destiny 2, marking its first return since its original debut in the first game. Previously, players could acquire this sought-after shader by defeating Atheon in the Vault of Glass raid. However, its current availability is part of the limited-time “Past is Prologue”event, which will conclude permanently with the onset of Episode Heresy on February 4, 2025.

This impending deadline means that players have until the end of Revenant Act 3 to obtain this fashionable shader. While there’s always a chance it may reappear in the future, it’s best not to gamble on that possibility. Therefore, it’s essential to follow these steps to secure the Chatterwhite shader while you still can.

Unlocking the Chatterwhite Shader

The Chatterwhite shader can be unlocked by completing the Packed Lunch quest. This quest involves finishing five Bento Boxes that are available from The Drifter, found just north of The Tower’s Annex landing zone.

Each Bento Box comes with its unique challenge, ranging from various levels of difficulty. Players may need to tackle boss encounters, score final blows with specific weapons, or participate in different activities across the game world.

The following four Bento Boxes are currently available for completion, with a fifth task launching alongside Xur on February 24:

QUEST OBJECTIVE
A Dubious Bento Collect Dubious Celery from defeated targets in Gambit, as well as Century Eggs from defeated foes on the Moon.
Martial Mementos Achieve final blows with weapons such as Malfeasance, Witherhoard, Touch of Malice, Whisper of the Worm, Xenophage, or Arbalest.
Nightmare Lunch Complete various activities on the Moon, with additional progression for Nightmare Hunts.
The Stuff of Legends Finish the final encounters in any raid or dungeon, with added progress from raids.

Once you’ve completed these tasks, visit Eris Morn on the Moon. She’ll express gratitude for your efforts and reward you with a Bento Token for each quest you finish. These tokens can be exchanged for various rewards at her shop, including one of the top PvP Hand Cannons in the game.

Continue this process until you’ve successfully completed a minimum of five Bento Boxes, then return to The Drifter to finalize the Packed Lunch quest. This will unlock the Chatterwhite shader, allowing you to customize the appearance of your weapons and armor.

The Future of the Chatterwhite Shader

It is highly likely that the Chatterwhite shader will return after the event concludes on February 4, 2025. This expectation stems from the history of its all-black counterpart, the Superblack shader, which also reappeared after a limited-time event.

The Superblack shader returned as a reward during the Ghost Writer event challenge in the Festival of the Lost 2024, indicating a pattern for shader reintroductions. Therefore, players can reasonably anticipate the Chatterwhite shader will make a similar comeback during other seasonal events such as Solstice or Guardian Games. We’ll keep you updated with any new information as it becomes available.
