Concerns Surrounding Hanni’s E-6 Visa Expiration

Recent developments in the entertainment industry indicate that Hanni from NewJeans is facing a critical situation regarding her E-6 (Culture and Entertainment) visa issued through ADOR, which is set to expire in early February. The situation is further complicated by claims from both Hanni and NewJeans asserting the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR, leading to skepticism about any visa extension from the agency.

Despite ADOR’s previous statements affirming that Hanni’s contract with NewJeans remains intact and expressing intentions to file for her visa extension, insiders believe that collaboration with ADOR is becoming increasingly unlikely. This situation raises concerns about the future activities of NewJeans as a complete unit, with industry observers noting uncertainty due to the potential lapse in Hanni’s legal status in South Korea.

Visa Procedure Challenges

If Hanni fails to secure an extension through ADOR, she will need to exit South Korea and apply for a new E-6 visa. This application process is stringent and necessitates an exclusive contract with a registered domestic entertainment agency. Key requirements for this visa application include:

  • A copy of the exclusive contract with a registered agency under the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Promotion Act.
  • A guarantee letter from a representative of the inviting agency.
  • A recommendation letter from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The entire visa application process typically spans 2 to 3 months.

Speculations About Hanni’s Current Location

In addition to complications around her visa, there are circulating rumors that Hanni may currently be in Australia. Some speculate she might be preparing to obtain a new E-6 visa from there before potentially returning to South Korea.

Allegations and Government Response

Further intensifying the situation, Hanni reportedly faces allegations concerning her immigration status, including claims of being undocumented. In response to these allegations, the Investigation Division of the Seoul Immigration Office, under the Ministry of Justice, stated on January 10 that they could not comment on individual cases or potential breaches of the Immigration Control Act. They did, however, indicate that for foreign entertainers holding an E-6 visa, residency status is linked to their employment contract with a domestic agency and that appropriate measures would be enforced once any employment relationship is dissolved.
