Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron announces release date for India

On Friday, April 26, 2024, Warner Bros. India stated that on Friday, May 10, 2024, they will release Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning film The Boy and the Heron in India. The movie will be available with both English subtitles and an English dub.

Hayao Miyazaki’s award-winning movie The Boy and the Heron premiered in Japan on July 14, 2023. After almost ten months, it is set to hit theaters in India. There were speculations about which company would distribute it in the country, but luckily, Warner Bros. India has secured a deal for its release.

On Friday, April 26, 2024, Warner Bros. India’s official X account tweeted that Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning film The Boy and the Heron will be released in India on Friday, May 10, 2024.

In February 2024, Encore Films announced in a response comment on an Instagram post that they would be releasing the Hayao Miyazaki movie in theaters in India. This led to various rumors, including one suggesting that PVR Cinemas would handle distribution of the film in India.

In April 2024, PVR Cinemas put an end to all speculations by denying any plans of releasing the film in India. However, Warner Bros. India intervened and revealed that they would be partnering with Encore Films and GoodFellas to distribute the film in India.

At the time, Warner Bros. India announced their plans to release the movie in India with Japanese audio and English subtitles, as well as an English dubbed version. However, the release date for the film was not disclosed. Now, after much anticipation, anime fans in India can finally mark their calendars for the film’s release.

Both BookMyShow and PVR Cinemas, which are online ticketing platforms, have included The Boy and the Heron movie in their list of upcoming titles on their official websites.

Despite stating publicly that they would not distribute the film in the country, PVR Cinemas has announced that they will still be screening the movie in all of their theaters nationwide. However, fans will have to wait a little longer before they can purchase tickets online.

The film portrays the journey of Mahito Maki, a young boy who must adjust to a new life following the loss of his mother in a devastating house fire. He is confronted with significant changes, such as a new stepmother, a different home, and the potential of gaining a stepsibling.

Despite Mahito’s already dire circumstances, a mysterious gray heron tasks him with a peculiar mission to a place where the boundaries between life and death blur.
