Helldivers 2 PC Players Review Bomb Game on Steam Following PSN Account Update

Following Sony’s announcement to enforce PSN account requirements, PC players of Helldivers 2 have initiated a review bombing of the game’s Steam page.

Arrowhead, the developer of Helldivers, recently announced that all Steam users will now be required to link their accounts to an active PlayStation account. This change will become mandatory for new players starting on May 6, while existing players will have until June 4 to link their accounts. This news has caused disappointment among the game’s PC audience.

At its initial launch in February, a comparable system was in place, however, technical malfunctions allowed for the linking process to be voluntary. After resolving these complications, Sony and Arrowhead have decided to reintroduce the requirement for security reasons. However, not all users are at ease with being compelled to connect to PSN. Additionally, some regions, such as the Baltic states and certain parts of Africa, do not have access to the PlayStation Network at all.

Despite their frustration, PC players are not holding back their criticism, as seen by the multitude of negative reviews already flooding the game’s Steam page.

A Steam user, who has invested more than 60 hours into Helldivers 2, expressed their dissatisfaction with the game in a “Not Recommended”review by stating, “It is frustrating when players are banned for their inability or unwillingness to create a PSN account.”

A different individual who had spent almost 40 hours playing the game stated that they would not continue to play Helldivers 2 due to the updated requirements, stating, “If a PSN account is still necessary to play this game, I will not be participating.”

The presence of multiple unfavorable reviews serves as a cautionary message to new users, ensuring that everyone is informed about the upcoming modifications.

Of course, there are also individuals who are enjoying the game’s satire, such as one person who jokingly suggests that the Automatons have infiltrated Sony HQ in order to weaken Super Earth’s military. In fact, a review even humorously states, “The Ministry of Truth has demanded an end to this undemocratic action and has deemed it a danger to our Controlled Democracy.”

Despite Arrowhead’s established reputation for being pro-consumer within the gaming community, there are those who view their recent actions as a misstep and are hopeful that both Sony and Arrowhead will make a change in direction.
