An Amazon delivery driver has gained recognition for his heroic actions in rescuing an 84-year-old woman from a house fire. The incident unfolded when the driver noticed flames near her residence and promptly called 911 to alert the authorities.

The fire erupted at approximately 11:13 AM on February 11, 2026, at a single-story home located in Street, Maryland. At the time, the elderly woman was alone in her basement when she was alerted by her dog’s frantic barking.

Upon hearing the commotion, she went to investigate, only to discover smoke filtering in through a window. As she made her way upstairs, she caught sight of flames erupting from her front porch as she looked through the front door.

In a crucial moment, while the woman opened the back door to allow her two cats to escape, the vigilant Amazon driver happened to be nearby. Recognizing the grave situation, he contacted emergency services and then spotted the woman trying to exit through a sliding glass door. He rushed to her aid and helped pull her to safety, while her dog also made it out unharmed.

Responding quickly to the scene, nearly 30 firefighters from both the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company and the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company effectively managed to control the blaze within 20 minutes.

After a thorough investigation, officials determined that the fire was ignited by improperly disposed woodstove ashes. The Maryland Office of the State’s Attorney reported an estimated $250, 000 in damage to both the structure and its contents.

In the wake of this incident, the state fire marshal’s office issued a warning emphasizing the importance of treating all ashes and coals as potentially hot, regardless of their appearance. They encouraged residents to dispose of ashes carefully, stating: “Your house, deck, or garage is an unsafe place to store ashes. Store cooled ashes in a tightly covered metal container and keep it outside and at least 10 feet from your home or nearby buildings.”

This is not the first time that a pet has played an instrumental role in a rescue; earlier this year, a dog in Oregon aided search teams in locating its owner during a crisis.
