Hogwarts Legacy is set to receive a remarkable transformation with the release of the Switch 2 version, promising significant enhancements across graphics, audio, load times, and much more. This upgraded version seeks to rectify the drawbacks experienced in the original release.
Initially launched on the Nintendo Switch in November 2023, Hogwarts Legacy faced criticism due to its performance issues. In comparison to the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC versions, the Switch featured numerous loading screens, inferior texture quality, and a notably lower frame rate.
Major Enhancements in Switch 2 Version
On May 13, 2025, Warner Bros. Games unveiled a gameplay video showcasing Hogwarts Legacy running on the newly released Switch 2. The footage highlighted not just improved visuals, but a substantial boost in overall performance, aligning more closely with the capabilities of its console counterparts.
The most significant frustration with the original Switch port was its lengthy loading times, particularly pronounced when entering Hogsmeade. Players encountered tedious loading screens upon visiting the village or entering shops. However, the Switch 2 promises a transformation, offering seamless transitions similar to those found in the Xbox Series S/X and PS5 versions, eliminating the frustrating delays.
Graphically, the improvements are striking. The latest gameplay footage indicates that both the resolution and texture quality have seen a significant upgrade. Environments and character models appear much sharper, and there have been upgrades to lighting and shadow effects. These advancements are especially evident during combat, with spells now appearing more vibrant and reflections visually enhanced, particularly around the waters of Hogwarts Castle.
Another notable feature of the Switch 2 is its ability to output at resolutions up to 1440p at 120 Hz or 4K at 60 Hz with HDR support when docked. This capability naturally adds to the visual superiority of Hogwarts Legacy on the Switch 2 compared to its predecessor.
In an intriguing development, the official Nintendo website mentions that the Switch 2 version will support Joy-Con 2 mouse sensor functionality. While the exact implications of this feature remain to be clarified, there’s speculation that players may utilize Joy-Con motion controls for casting spells within the game.
For those who already own Hogwarts Legacy on the original Switch, an upgrade to the Switch 2 version will be available for $10 through the eShop. Alternatively, the Digital Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition are priced at $59.99 and $69.99, respectively.
