Hololive VTubers doxxed after “disastrous” mobile app launch

Hololive had eagerly released their long-awaited mobile app to a global audience, but unfortunately, a significant oversight led to malicious users doxxing the agency’s talents.

The global launch of Holoplus on August 22 marked the first time that the community app became available to the public. This update also included the addition of a community tab, allowing fans to openly discuss Hololive and share content related to its members and events.

Despite its unmoderated launch, this section quickly became a platform for users to share posts revealing the real identities of Hololive VTubers. Additionally, the app was inundated with explicit content that was not filtered, even though it was intended for users aged 13 and up.

Due to the absence of spam prevention, Holoplus was released without any measures to prevent a single user from repeatedly sharing the same post without facing any consequences. This lack of oversight, coupled with the absence of moderation, resulted in the community tab being flooded with controversial content.

Holoplus was made available globally after months of beta testing.

Upon the release of the app, fans immediately took to Reddit to voice their concerns. One user expressed their disappointment, stating, “I’m not entirely sure what Cover had in mind when they released this app in its current state.”This sentiment was echoed by others, with one user describing the launch as “absolutely disastrous.”

Some individuals shed light on the most concerning content found on the platform, expressing, “I came across a post that revealed personal information of all EN users,”and “One user shared real-life pictures of the talents without their consent. That is unacceptable.”

As a response, Hololive initially prohibited all users from sharing community content in the early hours of August 23. However, this restriction was eventually lifted and any inappropriate content was promptly deleted.

Ever since this modification, Holoplus has been monitoring and filtering the posts on their community tab to ensure compliance with their terms of service. This includes the removal of posts containing discriminatory language, criminal behavior, or any other actions that could potentially harm the company or its talents.

To access the global version of Holoplus, simply download it for free from either the App Store or Google Play Store. Please note that the app is not yet available in Europe or the UK, but the developers at Cover Inc. are actively working to make it accessible in these regions.
