Horses in Manor Lords: Their Uses and Functions Explained

Horses in Manor Lords: Their Uses and Functions Explained

Manor Lords is steadily receiving significant updates during its early access phase on Steam, including new game mechanics and a complete engine overhaul. While the game features an excellent tutorial and in-game help section, certain elements remain underexplained. Among the various animals available for purchase, horses are a significant addition in Manor Lords, alongside oxen and mules. So, what roles do horses play in Manor Lords?

What Are Horses Used For in Manor Lords?

In Manor Lords, horses are utilized primarily at trading posts, enabling traders to transport larger quantities of goods using carts. Currently, this is their sole function within the game, and they are exclusively used by traders. Horses do not assist with material transport within your village or farming tasks.

The game developers likely intend to expand the horse’s utility in future updates, as they are prominently displayed in the game’s key artwork. Yet, for now, horses mainly serve the needs of trading posts. While trading can occur without horses, having one greatly enhances efficiency.

The cost of a horse remains consistent regardless of where you purchase it. If you opt to buy from the hitching post initially, ensure you upgrade it to a stable or have another hitching post available; otherwise, your horse might eventually run away due to a lack of proper housing.

It is advisable to wait until you have established a proper trading system in Manor Lords and have assigned sufficient staff to the Trading Post before spending your precious 30 Regional Wealth, particularly during the early phase of the game.

Once you have accumulated some wealth, you can establish a Livestock Trading Post to import horses until you have the desired surplus. However, this should be a consideration only after making substantial progress in the game since both horses and opening trading routes can be costly.
