This beloved series marked a reunion between director Shin Won-ho and writer Lee Woo-jung, the creative duo behind “Prison Playbook.” Transitioning from a prison environment to a hospital, the narrative maintained its focus on profound character dynamics and life experiences.

Central to the storyline are five friends who began their journey at Seoul National University Medical School in 1999: Lee Ik-jun (a general surgeon), Ahn Jeong-won (a pediatric surgeon), Yang Seok-hyeong (an OB-GYN), Kim Jun-wan (a cardiothoracic surgeon), and Chae Song-hwa (a neurosurgeon).Despite specializing in different fields, their friendship flourishes as they navigate their professional lives together within the hospital’s walls.
While it does touch on medical issues, the essence of the series lies in its exploration of interpersonal relationships and moral choices. Themes such as life-and-death challenges, familial connections, and ethical quandaries are artfully intertwined, all presented in a comforting, uplifting manner.

Besides “Hospital Playlist, ” TVING has also gained traction with ENA’s “New Recruit 3, ” which rekindled interest in the first two seasons, highlighting the potency of franchise-driven audience habits.

TVING reported an astonishing 278% increase in viewership for Season 1 and a 219% jump for Season 2. Such data underscores the notion that the debut of a new installment effectively revitalizes interest in prior seasons—reinforcing the influence of franchise content in today’s viewing landscape.
Looking ahead, TVING announced plans to strengthen its franchise IP strategy focusing on seasonal dramas. Their goal is to enhance viewership of both new and existing content in a cohesive manner, positioning themselves distinctly in the competitive realm of OTT services.
