According to a supposed leak from House of the Dragon, a contentious alteration may be made to Daeron, one of the Targaryens missing from the show. Despite this, fans are not convinced and strongly dislike the concept.
While adapting George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood for House of the Dragon Season 1, a few alterations were made. For instance, Larys was depicted as the cause of Harwin Strong’s demise, a deviation from the book. Additionally, Lucerys’ death by Aemond and Vhagar was portrayed as a more deliberate act in the source material.
It is worth noting that there are still a few characters who have yet to make an appearance, such as Daeron Targaryen, who is the third son of the deceased King Viserys I and Alicent Hightower. As a result, Daeron is the brother of Aegon II, Aemond, and Helaena.
Fans and Martin both took notice of his absence, which was mentioned in an earlier blog post by Martin. In the post, he explained that Alicent had given Viserys four children – three sons and a daughter, with their youngest son Daeron currently residing in Oldtown. However, due to time constraints, they were unable to include him in this season.
In Season 2 Episode 3, he received his first mention on the show. “The Hightowers still possess power and there is a son there who may be more receptive to guidance. Daeron could potentially aid us in the coming weeks,” Otto informed Alicent.

Therefore, the question remains: where is he and who will be portraying him? According to a leak from 4chan, Sacha Vodegel Matzen has been chosen for the role – but this is not the primary issue at hand.
“Although it is not explicitly stated to the audience, it is implied in subtle ways, particularly through dialogue between Alicent and Cole, that Daeron is a bastard and will not have silver hair,”they wrote, referencing a possible leak found on Reddit.
The potential alteration from the book would be significant, as there is always a clear understanding that Daeron is the offspring of Viserys and Alicent. Needless to say, this concept is not well-received by fans.
“I truly hope this is not true. It would have been better if they had simply chosen to leave him out rather than portraying him as an illegitimate child of Cole and Alicent,”one Redditor expressed.
“This doesn’t make any sense. Daeron has already been mentioned… how could he possibly be involved in the Alicent and Cole situation?”wrote another person. “It’s completely ridiculous and goes against the established rule that only people with Valyrian blood can ride dragons. If they continue to make decisions like this, it will ruin the entire show,”added a third individual.
Fortunately, there is evidence to suggest that it is not accurate. Firstly, the source is from 4chan, so it should be approached with skepticism.
Additionally, Matzen has made appearances in both Episode 1 and 3 of House of the Dragon Season 2, portraying background characters.
It’s uncertain when our first encounter with Daeron will be, but hopefully he’ll have those distinctive silver Targaryen locks.
While waiting, be sure to keep track of when the next episode of House of the Dragon Season 2 airs. Hopefully, we will find out the fate of Aegon and whether Alicent is expecting again.
