How and where to grow gems in The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

The materials used in Breath of the Wild are not entirely new to the Legend of Zelda franchise. They were used to upgrade Linebeker’s ship in Phantom Hourglass and the Spirit Train in Spirit Tracks. In Breath of the Wild, materials such as gems are needed to upgrade armor and accessories. There are also additional ways to use gems, whether or not players choose to sell/trade them, etc.

There are six different types of gems in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Some of them are less common than others and cannot be bought from merchants, so Link will have to mine ore, loot chests and defeat strong enemies. It can take a lot of time, but a full set of armor and powerful equipment is worth it.

Where can gems be used?

If Breath of the Wild players have a few extra gems, they can sell them to merchants for a good price. The rarest diamonds sell for 500 rupees and amber for 30 rupees. There is a Gerudo merchant (Ramella) in Goron City who will give a large sum of rupees in exchange for any gem. However, Link will only be able to trade with her after defeating Firefoul Ganon (aboard the Vah Rudania).

To upgrade Link’s armor, players must take him to one of the Fairy Fountains around Hyrule. When all four fairy fountains are unlocked (and paid for in rupees), he will be able to upgrade his armor to the maximum level (level 4). For example, the last Zora Helmet Upgrade will add +8 Defense for 10 Lizalfos Tails and 15 Opals.

Here are all six gems from Breath of the Wild, along with their selling price:

Development of rare ore deposits

Loz Botw rare ore deposit

The most common way to mine gems in BotW is to mine them from ore deposits. There are two types of deposits: common and rare. Common deposits are darker than rare deposits and contain gold rather than amber or opal. If players want to find rubies or sapphires, they will have better luck with rare deposits.

The southern mine in Hyrule contains about two deposits of rare ore. It is located south of Goron City in the province of Eldin and can be reached quickly if you have completed the Shrine of Shae Mo’sa quest, which is located slightly north of Goron City.

When extracting gems in the mines, take a good mining weapon with you, such as an iron sledgehammer or a master’s sword. The Evil Curse Blade can be very effective at breaking open mines, but its inability to break (on a 10 minute cooldown) makes it perfect for breaking open mines.

Trade glowing stones with Ledo

After Link defeats Vah Root, he can talk to a Zora named Ledo in Zora’s Domain. Ledo can be found north of the Nez Yoma Shrine and at the right foot of the bridge. The first conversation with him triggers the side quest “Collecting Glowing Stones”. As the name suggests, Link needs to collect 10 glowstones and deliver them to Ledo as a reward for 1 diamond.

Luminous Stones are easier to spot at night due to their blue-green glow and can be found on the rocks surrounding Zora’s domain. Another good place for their production is the coastline under the city of Tarri on Lake Akkala. Once Link has 10, he can return to the Nez Yoma Temple and talk to Ledo.

Defeat Scree and Pebbles

igneo scree

The Stone Shout is a type of monster found in Breath of the Wild and can be a threat to any novice player. In fact, you can already meet him on the Great Plateau. There are five types of Stone Scree: common, rare, icy, magmatic, and glowing. The type of scree determines which ore it drops after being hit. While not as common as bokoblins or moblins, scree can be found all over Hyrule – even in Hyrule’s castle.

Each Talus stone has an ore deposit somewhere on its body. Hitting the ore will deal a lot of damage to it. The best way to do this is to make him fall (using bombs). When he is stunned, climb on his back and aim for the ore deposit. Alternatively, players can shoot explosive arrows at the scree deposit and thus destroy it. After defeating him, various ores will drop from him to collect.

Smaller versions of talus are called pebblets. They are less intimidating than their larger counterparts, but can still be a problem if there are too many of them. If there is a Pebblit, then there is most likely a Talus nearby. However, they can be defeated with a single remote bomb. The disadvantage of this method is that the ore they throw can fall apart when it explodes. Therefore, to combat them, it is recommended to use a sledgehammer. Due to their size, the pebbles only drop one gem rather than a whole bunch.

Defeat silver and gold monsters

silver lizalfos

Silver monsters are stronger versions of normal monsters such as moblins and lisalfs. They are white and silver in color and are usually armed with more powerful weapons. As elite monsters, they hit harder and have twice the health. If BotW players play in master mode, gold monsters will spawn; this is an improved version of silver monsters.

Sometimes a Silver Monster will guard the camp with a treasure chest. After defeating all the enemies near him, you will be able to open the chest, which may contain a rare gem.

When Lingling defeats a silver or gold monster, he loses rare gems and his weapons. If players want to challenge themselves, they can look for Silver and Gold Linelings, which have a 30% chance to drop a Topaz, Ruby, or Sapphire.

The Silver Line is located in the ruins of the Colosseum north of the Great Plateau. BotW players should be prepared to fight silver/gold monsters, especially Linels. Basically, these are mini-bosses with one of the best weapons in the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available for Nintendo Switch.
