The flexible My Files software, an in-built file explorer program, is available on the majority of Samsung Galaxy phones. My Files allows users to conveniently view and manage images, videos, documents, audio recordings, and downloaded items on their cellphones from a single location. In addition to file management, My Files allows customers to free up capacity on their device by shifting files to an external memory card or cloud service if they run out of space.
It is a free app that can be found on the phone’s app store or in the “Samsung” app folder.
The next portion of the article includes a comprehensive instruction to utilizing Samsung’s multifunctional file management program, allowing users to take full advantage of its capabilities.
How to Use the Samsung File Manager or the My Files app
Before using the My Files application, users must ensure that the software on their device is up to current. To check for available updates and download and install any pending ones, navigate to Settings > Software Update.
To begin accessing files on a Samsung phone, launch the My Files app. To begin, users may find all downloaded files under Categories > Downloads. Please keep in mind that not every downloaded content will be available in this place.
For example, videos downloaded from Netflix or YouTube for offline watching will not be accessible via the in-built file explorer; such content is accessible via the streaming app’s “Downloaded videos” area.
Other portions of the phone’s internal storage, such as folders for photographs, movies, audio, app installation files, compressed files, and more, may be found under Categories. There is also a “Recent files” area that displays all recently downloaded or generated files.
My Files, in addition to local storage, allows users to access files on Samsung Cloud Storage and other cloud services.
File management also include removing old files to make room for new ones. To delete files using Samsung’s My Files app, just press and hold the file/folder, then select Delete from the options at the bottom of the screen.
Deleted files are relocated to the Trash folder and remain there for 30 days before being permanently erased from the device.
Through the My Files app, users may transfer files from internal storage to an SD card (if one is available on the device) or a Computer. To transmit files to an SD card, follow these steps:
- Locate the file/folder that needs to be relocated to an SD card in the My Files program.
- Tap and hold the file, then choose Move. Instead of deleting, click Copy to simply copy the file/folder to a new location.
- Return to the My Files home screen and pick the SD Card option.
- Go to the folder to which the file/folder has to be transferred, and then click Move here.
A PC may also be used to browse and move files on a Samsung device. All users have to do is connect their phone to a computer through a USB cord and, when prompted, pick Transferring files / Android Auto on their phone.
