How does Ranked mode work in Fortnite?

In ranked mode, the results of your matches allow you to progress through the ranks, which serve to reward your efforts and demonstrate your skill.

A progress bar indicates how far you are from the next row… or from the previous row if you are on the downward slope. Several variables determine how far the progress bar advances after a match, including:

  • Your investment
  • How many kills you or your team got during the game
  • Eliminations obtained at the end of the game will count more than eliminations obtained at the start of the game.
  • The ranks of players you or your team eliminated will be taken into account.
  • When determining a team’s final ranking and progression after a match, all players on that team will be counted as a single entity. Your team member with the highest rank will be used to determine ranking

If a team has both Gold I and Silver I players, then it will always be matched as a Gold I team and play against other Gold I and Silver I teams.

Fortnite’s Ranked mode is open to all skill levels. However, players who have never logged into Fortnite will need to complete a specific quest (Survive 500 Opponents) before they can unlock the Ranked option.

What are the ranks in Fortnite Ranked?

The ranks are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, and Unreal. Each tier from Bronze to Diamond has three tiers, while Elite, Champion, and Unreal have only one. Start at the bottom with Bronze and work your way up to Silver and finally Gold. Repeat this process going from Gold to Platinum to Diamond to unlock the Elite rank in the game.

You must prove your worth against the best players once you reach Elite, then Champion, and beyond that, Unreal. Once you reach Unreal Rank, you will be assigned a number that indicates your global ranking among other players in the rank.

The Unreal Dashboard will be where you can check your place in Battle Royale and/or Zero Build.

Rewards offered to players in Ranked mode

In a Ranked match, players receive a Ranked Urgent Quest. It allows you to obtain seasonal cosmetic rewards when completed. Each match has a new Urgent Ranked Quest, however progress is not carried over from one match to the next.

The Spotlight Emote is the final reward of Season Zero. When this Emote is activated, the player’s current rank is displayed in a colored bar (Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.).
