How Fans Reacted to Red Velvet Seulgi’s Apologies for Power Abuse

Recently, Red Velvet’s Seulgi became embroiled in a controversy surrounding allegations of power abuse. Photos of Seulgi wearing high heels at Incheon International Airport on her way to Taiwan surfaced, but upon her arrival in Kaohsiung, she was seen wearing her manager’s sneakers while the manager wore her heels. This sparked criticism towards Seulgi for potentially forcing her manager to exchange shoes with her. To address the controversy, Seulgi took to her personal Instagram Story to clarify the situation.

“I regret letting down the manager and others due to the incident at the airport yesterday.”

During my practice session, I developed blisters and injuries on my feet. I had chosen to wear low-heeled shoes at the airport, assuming they would be comfortable, but I regretted not bringing sneakers as I should have been more careful.

Despite my best efforts, my feet began slipping as I walked and the pain intensified. Upon reaching Kaohsiung, the manager noticed my struggle and recommended exchanging my shoes. However, I did not exchange them until I had left the airport.

I apologize to those who were disappointed as I was unable to find an alternative solution to the situation where my feet were hurting, leading to a wrong decision on my part. I also extend my apologies to the manager who was affected by this incident.

I took it upon myself to apologize to the manager and I am committed to being more vigilant in order to avoid similar incidents in the future.

As for this post, Seulgi is receiving support from Korean netizens who are leaving comments in her defense. A few of the comments shared on the renowned Korean online forum theqoo are as follows:

  • Despite her responsibility to protect artists, the manager was accused of abuse and used as a target for criticism. However, the truth is that they were just faithful to their job. Instead of pretending to be concerned for the manager, they should acknowledge her hard work and praise her for it.
  • Didn’t she simply request for Seulgi to temporarily swap shoes so the celebrity’s feet wouldn’t be in pain anymore? I am not sure what the issue is.
  • The comments are absurd. The manager did not change her shoes because Seulgi forced her to, but because she was concerned it might disrupt the artist’s performance. This speaks volumes about the manager’s professionalism and sensibility, rather than being a reason to pity her for being mistreated. Your harsh treatment of Seulgi is unexpectedly undermining the manager’s authority.
  • To be honest, the explanation appeared to be reasonable, but it may come across as bossy. For instance, if a colleague mentions having sore feet, I could offer to swap shoes with them, or if a colleague is occupied with both hands, I could assist them with their luggage.
  • Seulgi, cheer up
  • The manager’s responsibilities include taking care of the artist, which is why she was hired. From my observation, she is performing her duties well.

At the same time, X (Twitter) users from around the world are expressing their belief that Seulgi does not need to apologize for the issue.
