Have you ever faced the challenge of searching for a pearl amidst countless shells? While it may seem formidable, it’s certainly achievable. In Monster Hunter Wilds, players encounter a similarly challenging task, and this guide is designed to assist you in conquering it.
As part of the “Dareel’s Research Report”side quest, your objective is to capture a Tracktail Lizard, a charming endemic creature, to support the research team at the Windward Plains base camp. This guide provides essential details on locating and capturing these elusive lizards in Monster Hunter Wilds.
1. Locating Tracktail Lizards in Monster Hunter Wilds

To capture a Tracktail Lizard for the “Dareel’s Research Report, ”direct your search to the Windward Plains, particularly near water bodies or oases.
The most reliable place to find them is along the banks of the Oasis located in Area 13. To expedite your journey, consider establishing a Pop-Up Camp at this Oasis, or create a waypoint on the map for your Seikret to transport you there.
- Tracktail Lizards can also be spotted in Area 11 near rocky pillars, at the Oasis in Area 13, and amidst the sand dunes.
- Explore the eastern dunes either on foot or mounted to increase your chances of spotting these rare creatures, which tend to be more active during daylight.
- In Area 13, venture into the cave south of the Oasis. Navigate through to gather materials and find two Tracktail Lizards.
- Additionally, proceed east of the Oasis and northward towards Area 16’s cave exit to encounter another pair of Tracktail Lizards.
2. Capturing Tracktail Lizards in Monster Hunter Wilds

These slender, blue lizards resemble meerkats, easily identified by their long tails, which they use for balance when startled. However, approach with caution—getting too close may cause them to scurry away and burrow into the sand.
To successfully catch a Tracktail Lizard, follow these steps:
- Equip your capture net from the item bar.
- Sneak up on the lizard while carefully aiming with your slinger.
- When the aiming reticle turns orange, launch the net using your slinger to capture the lizard.
- Remember to use L2/LT instead of the usual square/X button for the capture.
- If you miss your target, the lizard will escape, necessitating a lobby reset to find them again.
Upon completing this quest, you’ll unlock the next side quest, Samin’s Research Report, which involves locating a dapperwing.
After successfully capturing the Tracktail Lizard, return it to Dareel to receive your rewards, which include 10 honey and 50 Guild Points. Although modest, these rewards pave the way for capturing other endemic creatures within Monster Hunter Wilds.
