The release of the Shadow of Erdtree DLC brings a range of fresh weapons and items to the game, such as the Falx curved swords. These swords are designed for dual-wielding and have a simplistic, unassuming appearance.
Despite its appearance, this beast should not be underestimated as it possesses high base damage and the ability to cause bleeding. Furthermore, it boasts an incredibly fast movement speed in battles, making it a valuable asset in challenging games like Elden Ring.
Falx Sword in Elden Ring DLC
The Falx sword can be obtained by looting it from its previous NPC owner, Hornsent. There are two opportunities for players to obtain this weapon:
- By beating Hornsent when he invades players at the Rauh Ancient Ruins during the Hornsent quest: or
- In order to defeat Hornsent, the Needle Knight Leda’s world in the Cleansing Chamber Anteroom in Enir-Illim was invaded.
To obtain the Falx sword earlier in the game, it is suggested to pursue the Hornsent quest and allow him to invade you, rather than choosing the alternative option.
If you choose the second option, you will also have to confront Leda and Dryleaf Dane, in addition to Hornsent. Furthermore, this encounter occurs right before the final battle, leaving you without the opportunity to try out your newly acquired sword.
How to Begin the Hornsent Quest in Elden Ring
The Hornsent questline commences when players encounter him for the first time at the Gravesite Plains, located near the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace. To successfully finish the quest, follow the given steps:
- Complete his dialogue in the vicinity of the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace.
- Defeat the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, and speak to Hornsent Grandam wearing its head.
- Retrieve the Scorpion Stew from Hornsent Grandam and deliver it to Hornsent.
- To complete the mission, you must defeat Rellana and Twin Moon Knight before meeting Hornsent at the Highroad Cross Site of Grace.
- Make sure to cover all of Hornsent’s dialogue during this meeting.
- Head towards the Shadow Keep and a notification regarding the “shattering of a powerful symbol” will appear.
- After returning to Hornsent, make sure to go through all of his dialogue before he moves to a different location.
- Now, head deep into the Shadow Keep until you reach Storehouse Front.
- Two summoning signs can be found in the south at this location.
- Choose the crimson summoning sign and be summoned to assist Needle Night Leda.
- To obtain the Falx sword, defeat Hornsent in battle and retrieve it from his body.
If you choose not to participate in this battle and instead call upon Hornsent to confront Messmer, you will eventually be ambushed by him at the summit of the stairs within the Ancient Ruins of Rauh. This will provide you with another opportunity to obtain the weapon for yourself.
Is Falx Curved Sword Effective in Elden Ring?
The Falx Sword stands out as a top dual-wielding weapon in Elden Ring due to its impressive base damage, capacity to grant exceptional mobility to the wielder while effectively dispatching foes, and the added benefit of inflicting the Hemorrhage status effect.
In general, this option would be suitable for those who favor a build that is centered around strength and dexterity. However, it may not be the best fit for highly skilled wizards and marksmen.
