The PlayStation 5 is nearly three years old at this point, and although it has been on the market for that long, there are still a number of bugs that frustrate users. Despite the fact that Sony has released a number of significant firmware updates for the console over the past few years, the infamous “Queued for download” error is still prevalent. The Queued for download error occurs whenever a user attempts to update a file or acquire a new game. This can happen for game updates and system updates, which can be extremely frustrating for players who want to play a new game on their brand-new console.
The worst aspect of this error is that it can occur at virtually any time and has no specific cause. Fortunately, there are a number of methods for players to quickly mitigate and even prevent this error. It should be noted that while none of these remedies are alternatives to an official PlayStation patch, they serve as temporary solutions until PlayStation deploys a permanent patch for the Queued for download error.
Here’s how to fix the “Queued for download” error on PlayStation 5 rapidly.
The Queued for download error can occur for a variety of reasons, including a PSN server disruption, poor internet connectivity, incompatibility issues with Wi-Fi or the ethernet cable, and console game license issues. The majority of these errors can be resolved without a forced reset of the PlayStation 5.
There are three essential solutions for resolving the Queued for download error on a PlayStation 5.
- It is highly probable that PSN will experience an outage when you begin downloading a game or when you power on your console. You can always verify the status of PSN on the PlayStation website to determine whether the service is undergoing maintenance or experiencing an outage.
- If PSN is online but you’re still unable to download games or updates, examine your internet connection (Wi-Fi or ethernet) to determine if your ISP is experiencing problems. You can also try altering network types, i.e., if you are on Wi-Fi, try connecting your console via a LAN cable, or if you are connected via an ethernet cable, try disconnecting it and connecting your console to your home Wi-Fi network.
- If your internet connection and PSN are both functioning normally, but you are unable to download your game, try canceling the download, reloading your console, and redownloading the game or updating the file. Before you can download an update or a new game, you must have sufficient space on your SSD; running out of storage can also prevent downloads if the console cannot allocate enough space for the game files.
- Restoring licenses: Finally, you can attempt to restore licenses, which can take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes depending on the number of titles and DLCs in your library. You can reinstate game licenses by selecting Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses from the Settings menu. This procedure refreshes all of your DLC and game licenses and could potentially resolve the PlayStation 5 download issue.
If none of these solutions resolve the Queued for download error on your PlayStation 5, you may need to perform a system reset. Thankfully, initializing the PlayStation 5’s storage does not take nearly as long as it did on the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro, which required up to an hour.
In contrast, resetting the PlayStation 5 takes less than 15 minutes, which is a significant advantage if you ever need to do so.
