Destiny 2’s most recent expansion, The Final Shape, introduces the Enigma Protocol, a challenging three-person activity that is time-gated and not for the faint of heart. As the first Echo in Act 1, players will have the opportunity to attempt it multiple times until the act concludes.
What is the Enigma Protocol?
The main focus of Enigma Protocol is completing a series of tasks within a designated time frame rather than engaging in boss battles. Throughout this timed challenge, you will encounter various arena fights, but it is crucial to keep in mind that defeating your opponent is not the primary objective, speed is. The activity is divided into different sections, with a final boss battle awaiting at the end.
How to extend the timer?
The primary difficulty of the Enigma Protocol lies in racing against time. The mission commences with a 60-second countdown, and there are two methods to prolong the timer:
- Breaking or shattering yellow crystals.
- Slaying Harpies.
The yellow diamond crystals have been strategically placed throughout the room, so be sure to thoroughly search every corner. Each crystal will add 30 seconds to the remaining time on the clock.
The Archival Timekeepers, also known as Harpies, can be found in the arenas. Defeating them will reward you with an additional 30 seconds.
After the timer expires, the mission will reset, so make an effort to prolong it as much as possible.
How to Unlock the Enigma Protocol?
In order to access the Enigma Protocol, completing a few tasks for Failsafe, the primary vendor for this episode, is necessary before immediate access is granted.
Upon completing the main campaign in The Final Shape and emerging victorious over the Witness, you will embark on an introductory mission. Afterwards, make sure to complete at least one playthrough of the Breach Executable before returning to the Failsafe.
Failsafe will now give you a new mission titled “Encoded Log,”which requires you to explore the Well of Echoes in The Tangle. Proceed to the location and enter the structure. Your objective is to defeat a Minotaur that you will encounter.
Search for any Vex cubes in the vicinity and eliminate them in order to weaken the Minotaur. Continue this process until the creature is defeated.
Your HUD will now guide you to a waypoint. From there, continue to Nessus and approach the entrance to the Enigma Protocol.
Walkthrough
The Enigma Protocol consists of two primary sections, each culminating in a loot chest. Prior to reaching the chest, players must navigate through a series of platforming sections and arenas. They have the option to either proceed to the second loot chest or restart the protocol. To obtain superior loot, players must defeat the Vex Minotaur.
To restart the mission, either click on the Force Reboot Network Instance button or enter through the portal. Inside the loot chests, you can find weapons from the Season of Dawn and a scarce emblem.
Encounters
The majority of encounters in the Enigma Protocol remain consistent as you advance. This aids in reducing wasted time. Each encounter features three yellow diamonds, and upon destroying all three, a message will appear reading “Zone Security Cleared!”.
