Before taking on the roles of Deadpool and Wolverine, Hugh Jackman was given some serious guidance from a key figure at Marvel.
One of the main reasons fans are excited for Deadpool & Wolverine (besides the entertaining Marvel crossovers) is the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. After 15 years since Deadpool’s unexpected introduction in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the highly anticipated team-up between Wade Wilson and Logan is finally happening.
Despite the potential for alternate versions of Wolverine in the upcoming Marvel movie, Jackman remains the most recognizable portrayal of the character. Surprisingly, he was actually discouraged from taking on the role, receiving a warning from the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige.
During a recent interview with Empire, Feige shared that he had attempted to persuade Jackman to let go of his role as Wolverine. His reasoning was sound, as he felt that Wolverine’s fate in 2017’s Logan served as a fitting end for the character.
“According to Feige, he advised Hugh to not return after his successful farewell in ‘Logan’. Feige’s words were: “Don’t come back, you had the greatest ending in history with ‘Logan’ and that’s not something we should undo.”
Fortunately, Jackman followed his instincts and as a result, we are now on the cusp of witnessing the dynamic duo of Deadpool and Wolverine wreak havoc in the MCU. According to the actor, he made the choice to take on the role while he was en route to his home.
As Jackman was driving for about an hour, he suddenly found himself pondering the question, “What do I want to do?”This question sparked a desire within him to do a movie with Deadpool and Wolverine. He couldn’t get the thought out of his head and continued driving for another hour. Eventually, he couldn’t resist the idea any longer and immediately called Ryan to express his interest in the project. He told Ryan, “If you’ll have me, I’m in.”
As a result of these words, Deadpool and Wolverine came into existence.
