During the dispute between ADOR and HYBE, angry Bunnies accused the parent company of intentionally trying to ruin NewJeans’ comeback, according to a report by Topstar News.
NewJeans’ highly anticipated return occurred on May 24 with the debut of their latest EP, “How Sweet.”The EP includes the eponymous lead single as well as a b-side track titled “Bubble Gum.”
Despite lacking any special promotion, the MV reached over 8.6 million views in a mere four days after its release, demonstrating its immense popularity.
Despite the song, “How Sweet,”being suddenly subjected to age restrictions, the problem gradually began to come to light one by one.
Despite facing immediate backlash for supposedly enforcing the measure, HYBE denied these claims and clarified:
“HYBE does not set an age limit when uploading music videos to YouTube. YouTube classifies content as age-restricted according to its own standards. We already requested YouTube headquarters to confirm the exact facts and what criteria the viewing age was restricted.”
Despite this, Bunnies (fans of NewJeans) continued to speculate that HYBE is deliberately targeting the group due to its ongoing conflict with ADOR’s CEO Min Hee Jin.
“Indeed, a number of individuals online asserted that they reached out to YouTube directly and were informed that HYBE had implemented the age restriction.”
Additionally, certain fans pointed out that comments criticizing HYBE were being deleted, particularly those posted on the “How Sweet”MV.
Despite the age restriction for the MV being lifted as of May 29, the conspiracy theory regarding the label neglecting NewJeans has persisted. This was further fueled by a netizen who shared their thoughts in an online community, stating:
“NewJeans album is supposed to sell at least 1 million copies, not 810,000, but the delivery invoice for the quantity purchased from Weverse Shop did not arrive even a few days after the release date. It’s so funny that HYBE, who pushes things, doesn’t send out only NewJeans albums.”
The original poster (OP) included this statement:
“The current series of actions are dirty and vicious.”
During a recent conversation, Min and founder Bang Si Hyuk discussed the possibility of pushing back aespa’s album release in order to break their highest first-week album sales record.
Despite the complaints, some fans of HYBE indirectly defended the label while also acknowledging the frustration as a common issue among HYBE artists.
Below are a few of the comments:
- “It’s not just NewJeans, but it’s always been like that for HYBE artists.”
- “The album I ordered for BTS member RM hasn’t arrived yet, too.”
- “All HYBE artists have been like this.”
- “This is a problem we have been experiencing since 2022 “
- “HYBE’s work handling is the problem, not just NewJeans’ problem.”
- “HYBE’s work handling method needs to be improved.”
