Hyejeong has dashed AOA fans’ hopes for a potential comeback by confirming that the group is essentially disbanded.
On October 2nd, the idol-turned-actress Hyejeong appeared on the YouTube channel, “No Back Tak Jae Hoon,”where she candidly discussed the K-pop girl group, AOA.
To provide some context, AOA was one of the most popular third-generation girl groups until former member Mina accused Jimin of bullying her, which led to significant turmoil within the group.
Initially, the group consisted of eight members. However, following the controversy, members gradually departed from FNC Entertainment, leaving only a trio: Hyejeong, Seolhyun, and Dohwa, who were recognized as bystanders in the situation.
After the events unfolded in 2020, AOA was considered to be on an indefinite hiatus. When questioned about the group’s potential disbandment, Hyejeong stated:
“No, we didn’t disband. It’s not clear yet. But in my heart, we’re already disbanded.”
She further explained:
“Rather than disbanding, we’re just supporting each other’s lives. It’s true, at least in my heart.”
As the conversation progressed, MC Tak mentioned that former member Choa had remarked in a separate appearance on the channel that she is the most pitiful member of the group.
However, Hyejeong disagreed, stating:
“I don’t think so. My sister left first and is living well after achieving her dream. I believe she left because she wanted to pursue something, so I’ve never considered her pitiful. She and I chose different paths, and I think she’s on the right track.”
Regarding the turmoil AOA experienced, Hyejeong reflected:
“Who could be the culprit? We are not in contact with one another. We only keep up with each other’s lives by looking at their Instagram profiles.”
While Hyejeong harbors hopes for AOA to reconcile and reunite one day, she candidly admitted that the chances seem slim:
“I want to see it too. But I don’t know because I don’t keep in touch with the members. We don’t even have a group chat. Also, we haven’t reconciled yet.”
