<p>The popular sandbox game, Hytale, has made a remarkable comeback. After Riot Games decided to cancel the project, Hypixel has taken full ownership, reversing the fate of a title that many assumed was lost forever.
On June 23, 2025, Riot Games announced the cessation of Hytale’s development and the gradual shutdown of Hypixel Studios, despite a decade of dedication to this Minecraft-inspired universe.
In response to the overwhelming support from the community, Hypixel’s founders, Simon Collins-Laflamme and Philippe Touchette, proposed to reacquire the rights to the project.According to the team, the acquisition occurred without a full appraisal of the state of the game’s codebase, ensuring Hytale’s independence from any external investors or publishers.

The Revival of Hytale: Hypixel Takes Charge
Hypixel anticipates revealing an early access launch date in November. Players can expect an unpolished version of the game filled with bugs, gameplay imbalances, and ongoing updates, which may occasionally disrupt existing features.
In a post on X, co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme announced, “We did it. Hytale is saved. We have acquired Hytale from Riot Games, ” followed by reassurances about the absence of extended delays. Collins-Laflamme expressed excitement about the game’s early access phase, allowing fans to experience it in its raw state.“It won’t be perfect on day one, but together we can craft it into something extraordinary, ” he stated.

Development will prioritize frequent updates, transparent release notes, and strong community involvement, with Hypixel committing to maintaining a lean team for swift iterations.
As Hytale embarks on a multi-year early access journey, community feedback will heavily influence its development. The developers have secured a decade’s worth of funding to gradually assemble the long-awaited gaming experience.
