A man has been apprehended and charged with multiple offenses after running an unlicensed dental practice that reportedly earned him significant profits. This incident, which unfolded in the Czech Republic, raises serious concerns regarding public health and safety.

According to BBC News, the 22-year-old suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, launched his illegal dental practice in 2023 and treated dozens of patients. He was arrested in June alongside two family members who acted as his assistants.

This alleged unlicensed professional reportedly conducted various dental procedures, from tooth extractions to root canals. Impressively concerning, he had studied these procedures online and performed them at his family’s home. The assistants included a 50-year-old woman with a nursing background and a 44-year-old man specializing in prosthetics.

Before the authorities intervened, the illegal operation netted approximately $185, 500. The woman, who had experience in healthcare, provided anesthetics and other dental materials, including fillings and cleaning powders, acquired through her professional background.

All three individuals involved now face serious charges, including operating an illegal business, money laundering, attempted assault, drug dealing, and theft. They have all pleaded guilty. It is noteworthy that this illegal practice continued for nearly two years, drawing attention only after a dissatisfied patient sought help from a legitimate dentist.

Roman Smucler, president of the Czech Dental Chamber, remarked on this troubling incident in an interview with the Czech news outlet Radiozurnal. He noted that while such instances of fake dental practices are rare, they do occur, with over ten similar cases reported annually in the country.
