David Syzmanski, the visionary behind the acclaimed indie horror game Iron Lung, recently shared his initial thoughts on Markiplier’s much-anticipated movie adaptation. His feedback is bound to ignite excitement among fans.

In early 2023, YouTube sensation Mark ‘Markiplier’ Fischbach unveiled his ambitious project to adapt Iron Lung into a cinematic experience. The trailer successfully encapsulated the haunting atmosphere that defines the original game.

Since its announcement two years ago, there have been sporadic updates about the film’s progress, with Markiplier stating it was “officially done”by summer 2024. However, the past year has seen limited news, although Markiplier remains committed to releasing the film in theaters.

Insights from the Creator: A Glowing Review of the Film

In a recent appearance on the Quad Damage Podcast on September 2, 2025, Syzmanski expressed his endorsement of the film, stating he is quite impressed with Markiplier’s interpretation of his original vision.

“It is very good, ” Syzmanski remarked.“I know I am the least unbiased source you could hear from, but the movie is very good. I don’t think people are ready for it. It’s a proper ‘movie’ movie. It’s not just, ‘Here, let’s make a fun little movie from the game.’ It’s a serious, proper horror film.”

Syzmanski emphasized that this adaptation was built “from the ground up” with a theatrical release in mind. He reiterated Markiplier’s intention to ensure it reaches theaters, stating:

“That’s the hope… The plan has always been for it to release in theaters. It was filmed and scored and everything as a theatrical release. The sound for the movie was created and mixed for a theater, and it makes full use of that.”

Markiplier has acknowledged that his insistence on a theatrical release is the only thing delaying Iron Lung‘s debut. His determination reflects a strong belief in the film’s cinematic potential:

“I’m not accepting anything less than theatrical. That movie needs to be in theaters. There have been opportunities besides that, but I have not taken them… That’s what I want. That’s what I aim for, and that’s what I think it deserves.”

As Markiplier continues to refine the film, he also shares updates with fans through his YouTube channel. The demanding process has not been without its challenges, including a serious hospital visit stemming from one of the movie’s most intense scenes, which has been noted as one of the bloodiest in cinematic history.
