Your choices in dialogue can significantly impact the narrative in Avowed, especially when it comes to the fate of characters like Brentis and Pod. The stakes are high, and deciding whether or not to try and save them can seem daunting.
Initially, both Brentis and Pod confront you with lethal intentions. However, by selecting the right dialogue options, there’s a chance to redeem at least one of them. It’s crucial to remember that their violent motivations stem from being misled by their superiors—thus, offering them a second chance might be worth the effort.
Can You Save Brentis or Pod in Avowed?

Pod is savable in Avowed, but unfortunately, Brentis is not. Regardless of the dialogue choices you make, you will be compelled to fight and kill Brentis. Driven by a misguided belief that the Godlike is a plague bearer, she will initiate combat, forcing you and your team to confront her.
To ensure Pod’s survival, you need to choose the following dialogue options, which are accessible regardless of your character’s backstory:
- “If you’re looking for the ambassador, I already found him.”
- “Now that you mention it, I have been feeling a little sick.”
- “[Clutch your stomach.] Ohhh… my guts… here it comes… curse this terrible plague…”
- “[Pretend to vomit into your hands.] Ohhh… help me…”
Once Pod expresses his inability to continue with the line “I… I can’t do this anymore!”, victory is yours; he will escape during the ensuing battle with Brentis.
If you examine the ‘Cryptic Letter’ found on Brentis’ body, you’ll uncover her orders revealing a bounty for information on your character. It’s clear her agenda led her to overstep, sealing her fate and eliminating any hope for her salvation.
Should you opt for any other dialogue choices that are not specially tailored to character backgrounds, prepare for the worst: Pod will join Brentis in battle and likely perish alongside her.
In our playthrough, selecting a War Hero background revealed additional dialogue that caused Pod to retreat:
- “I didn’t survive battle just to be done in by a pair of street whelps.”
- “[Stare off into the distance, haunted by your past.]” or “Yes. They were brutal, but necessary.”
Even though Brentis cannot be spared, you can benefit from her demise. Looting her body can yield grenades and a precious Agate gem, which could be sold for a nice profit at the market.
It’s unfortunate for Pod, who, misled by Brentis, is left to his fate—but at least there’s a new mystery to uncover and some treasures to collect.
What Happens to Pod if You Save Him in Avowed?

If you successfully frighten Pod into fleeing—whether through threats relating to the plague or displays of aggression—he will exit the scene, running away from the confrontation with Brentis.
As of our last session, it remains unclear when or how Pod will reappear if he survives this initial encounter. This guide will be updated with any new findings about his character arc.
Now that you’ve learned how to influence the outcomes for both Pod and Brentis, you might also want to explore whether placing a coin in the Watcher’s pond could impact your campaign.
