Is Path of Exile 2 Going Free-to-Play?

Are you wondering if Path of Exile 2 will be free to play? As this highly anticipated sequel approaches its release, players are excited to explore its dark, immersive world. However, getting into the Early Access Beta might not be as simple as you think. If you’re curious about the requirements to access the game before its official launch, we have all the necessary information right here.

Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 will indeed be free to play! This was confirmed over a year ago during EXILECON 2023, and the decision remains unchanged. However, while the game itself is free, entering the Early Access Beta has a bit of a catch.

If you are eager to try Path of Exile 2 ahead of its full launch, you have two methods to qualify for the Beta:

First, you can purchase one of the new Supporter Packs, which will include a Beta key (these will be revealed during a stream in November 2024, as announced in a Twitter post from the official Path of Exile account).

Alternatively, you can qualify by reaching a “threshold of lifetime support”in the original Path of Exile. In simpler terms, if you have made significant in-game purchases in Path of Exile 1, you may be eligible for Beta access without having to buy a Supporter Pack. If your main goal is just to access the Beta, consider purchasing the Supporter Pack instead, rather than investing in Path of Exile 1.

However, keep in mind that the lifetime support threshold is quite substantial. According to a forum post on the official Path of Exile site, the required support level includes “a purchase of any top-tier pack ($440 or above), or… total lifetime purchases combining to $500 or more.” If you are a dedicated player who has invested in the game over the years, you may already be on the eligibility list. If not, consider grabbing one of those exciting new Supporter Packs!

When will the Beta launch?

The Beta starts on June 8 at 9 AM NZ time (which translates to June 7 at 2 PM Pacific Time). Make sure to mark your calendars if you want to be among the first to experience the new content!

How will players be selected for the Beta?

Unlike previous Betas where invites were sent out every few minutes, Grinding Gear Games plans to distribute large batches of invitations this time. They may invite 500 to 1000 players per day, simultaneously and discreetly. If you’ve spent over $500 or purchased a top-tier Supporter Pack in Path of Exile 1, you should be in the clear; just wait for your invite.

How will I know if I’ve been selected for the Beta?

Once the Beta commences, selected players will be informed in two ways: via email and through a private message on the Path of Exile website. This ensures that both Steam-exclusive users and those who visit the website frequently will be notified.

Active players who participated in recent leagues may receive priority, but almost all players can be eligible for selection, excluding duplicate accounts. So, if you are reading this, there’s a good chance you could be one of the fortunate players!

How can I check if my lifetime purchases meet the threshold?

To review your lifetime purchases, go to the Your Account section of the Path of Exile website, and click on Account Transactions. Real money purchases, such as Koala Pets, contribute to the total. However, points purchases do not.

If your account was transferred from Garena servers, those purchases will count, but they may not be detected automatically. If you don’t get access but believe you should have, contact Path of Exile’s customer support for further assistance.

If I already have Beta access through lifetime purchases and buy a Supporter Pack, will I receive an extra key?

Yes! If your account is already on the Beta participation list, and you purchase a Supporter Pack that includes a key, you’ll receive a spare Beta key to share with a friend. Just remember to give your friend the Supporter Pack key, as your account will automatically enter the Beta through your previous lifetime purchases.

Which leagues will be available in the Beta?

Will there be wipes during the Beta?

The developers will notify players in advance of any wipes, particularly if new content (like Act Eight) is being introduced and they want fresh feedback.

Is the Mapping System included in the Beta?

Yes, the Mapping System will be available, but only after you complete the current Beta content. There is a level gap between finishing Act Seven and starting the initial tier of Maps, which might pose a challenge for new players — but you’re more than capable!

Will the trade API be live during the Beta?
