Is the next-generation upgrade for Fallout 4 now available and accessible for free to PS5 users who are playing the game through PS Plus?
As previously announced, Bethesda Game Studios kept their promise and launched the next-generation upgrade for Fallout 4 on Thursday, April 25, 2024. This upgrade is available for PC through Steam, as well as for PlayStation and Xbox platforms. PS5 users who already own the game will need to download a new client, which is a native PS5 version with a file size of 56.503GB.
The game is currently listed in the Game Catalog for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. As a result, many are questioning whether players who access the game through the service will be able to upgrade to the new version without any extra cost, based on previous occurrences.
Can PlayStation Plus Subscribers Access the Free PS5 Upgrade for Fallout 4?
As of now, the answer remains the same – PS Plus users cannot access the Fallout 4 upgrade for free. Those who are Extra and Premium subscribers and wish to play the latest version of the RPG will need to purchase the game and pay the additional $19.99 to access the updated content.
It is not an uncommon situation. Both Greedfall and Final Fantasy 7 Remake also received PS5 enhancements that were available at no cost to all players, except for those who had downloaded the games through PS Plus. It is important to mention, though, that FF7 Remake eventually included the free upgrade for the PS Plus version as well.
Although Bethesda has not revealed any solid details, it is possible that Fallout 4 will make a similar change in the future.
What is the Next-Gen Upgrade for Fallout 4?
The most significant feature of the update is the addition of Performance and Quality Mode options. By selecting Performance Mode, players can experience 60fps gameplay with 4K resolution (with dynamic scaling). On the other hand, the Quality version maintains a 4K resolution but limits the framerate to 30fps without the use of dynamic scaling.
After announcing it two years ago, Bethesda has finally released the update, which couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. This is especially significant as the Fallout series is currently experiencing a surge in popularity following the widespread success of the acclaimed Amazon Studios TV show.
