Disappointment for Bayern Munich at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™ proved to be a letdown for Bayern Munich, as they faced elimination on home soil at the renowned Mercedes-Benz Stadium. In contrast, PSG showcased their strength as the reigning Champions League winners, continuing their impressive performance in the tournament.
A Missed Opportunity for Korean Stars
Fans eagerly anticipated a duel between South Korean talents Kim Min-jae and Lee Kang-in, but their hopes were dashed when neither player stepped onto the pitch during the match. Despite being fit again, Min-jae sat out the entire tournament, having yet to see any game time after recovering from injury. Similarly, although Kang-in was available for selection, he did not make it onto the field for PSG under head coach Luis Enrique.
Kim Min-jae’s Future at Bayern Under Question
Kim Min-jae’s position within Bayern Munich seems to be precarious. The arrival of new signing Jonathan Tah has reshaped the defensive line, with Tah starting all five matches in the Club World Cup alongside Dayot Upamecano. Despite a few errors, Tah’s performances have strongly suggested he deserves a permanent starting role, potentially pushing Min-jae further down the pecking order.

Transfer Speculation Heats Up
Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, recently sparked further speculation regarding Kim’s future. He stated in an interview with Bild, “Kim Min-jae and Palhinha will remain with the team until the end of the Club World Cup. After that, we’ll see how the transfer market unfolds.” This hints at potential movement in the upcoming transfer window.
Reports from German media suggest that Bayern Munich is receptive to offers for Kim, setting an asking price of approximately €35 million. Interest from elite European clubs is already heating up, with AC Milan, Manchester United, and Liverpool reportedly watching his situation closely.
The Path Ahead for Kim Min-jae
For Kim to secure more regular playing time and maintain his place in the South Korean national team, it may become increasingly essential for him to consider a transfer away from the Allianz Arena.
