Is Vine Making a Comeback? Elon Musk’s Twitter Takeover Sparks Rumors

Just a few days after acquiring Twitter, Elon Musk started hinting at the highly anticipated revival of Vine, the company’s short-form video app. However, there is still uncertainty surrounding its return and potential release date.

Vine, founded in 2013, was among the initial short-form video platforms to achieve widespread popularity on the internet. However, it was eventually discontinued by Twitter in 2016.

Similarly to how TikTok propelled Charli & Dixie D’Amelio to stardom, Vine played a crucial role in launching the careers of well-known influencers Logan and Jake Paul almost ten years ago.

After months of consideration and even an attempt to withdraw from the agreement, Elon Musk officially took ownership of Twitter on October 27, 2022. His recent actions have sparked speculation that he may revive the renowned platform.

How MrBeast Thinks Elon Musk Can Outshine TikTok with Vine

As of now, Elon Musk’s Twitter poll, inquiring whether or not Vine should be revived, has amassed more than four million votes, with 69.4% of the votes advocating for its revival.

Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson, a popular YouTuber, wasted no time in reacting to the suggestion of reviving Vine. He stated, “It would be hilarious if you actually went through with it and competed against TikTok.”

Upon inquiring about ways to improve his new social media platform, Elon received some valuable tips from MrBeast, the YouTuber.

According to the speaker, it is becoming increasingly difficult to be truly original since anything you create will quickly be replicated on other platforms. This is evident with the introduction of short-form content on YouTube, reels on Instagram, and similar features on Reddit, Snapchat, and Facebook, all of which are reminiscent of TikTok. The speaker advises taking measures to make your content difficult to duplicate, otherwise it may not be worth the effort.

Although Musk did not respond to Donaldson’s advice, it can be assumed that he has at least viewed the tweet.

Twitter Engineers reportedly working on Vine code

According to a report by Axios on October 31, Elon Musk has instructed Twitter Engineers to commence development on a Vine reboot.

According to purported insiders, the platform may potentially be revived before the end of 2022, which is a mere two months away.

The source code, which has remained unchanged since the shutdown of Vine in 2016, reportedly requires significant improvements according to sources from Axios.

Twitter/X employee posts link to Logan Paul’s page

On April 17, 2024, Christopher Stanley, an employee at Twitter/X, posted a cryptic message on the platform that contained a link to Logan Paul’s archived Vine page.

The shifty eyes emoji he posted next to the link left people speculating whether the platform will be returning sooner rather than later.

When will Vine be relaunched?

Currently, it is uncertain if or when the Tesla co-founder will revive Vine.

Musk is currently working on numerous projects, one of which involves the possibility of charging users $20 per month for verification on the platform.

The speculation surrounding the potential revival of Vine is ongoing, and we will continue to update this article as more details are revealed.
