Roblox has recently faced significant criticism following its announcement to overhaul avatar faces, transitioning from 2D to 3D styles. This change has sparked concerns among players about the potential loss of millions of Robux they invested in cosmetics. Players are now apprehensive that a similar transformation might be on the horizon for clothing as well.
In January 2026, Roblox informed its community about the planned replacement of classic faces with new, more dynamic alternatives. As a result, all Classic Head and Face combinations will be substituted with corresponding Dynamic Heads, effectively removing the original designs from users’ inventories.
This revelation led to widespread panic among fans, who were anxious about losing their valuable Robux without any compensation. Responding to the uproar, Roblox clarified that each Classic Face would indeed have a Dynamic Head counterpart, assuring the community that the rarity and value of these faces would remain unchanged. Nevertheless, this announcement has fueled speculation about the future of classic clothing.
Will Classic Clothing Be Removed?
As of now, Roblox has not officially announced any plans to eliminate classic clothing.
Interestingly, fans have cited statements from the 2022 earnings call, which hinted at a possible shift in clothing similar to the recent changes to faces. The company suggested that “ultimately, all clothing on our platform will be 3D clothing, ” and while there would still be opportunities to create clothing, it would transition to focus on 3D designs rather than the longstanding 2D styles.
By the way, they’re 100% removing 2D clothing and R6 once they’re done removing classic faces. They’ve already predicted that “100% of clothing on the platform will be 3D” And since barely anyone uses layered clothing, they’ll force it just like dynamic faces pic.twitter.com/nAkDtZkb33

Despite the backlash following the face transitions, it remains unclear whether Roblox will apply similar changes to clothing or explore a different strategy altogether. Currently, the company has not provided any updates regarding the potential removal of classic clothing in favor of the new 3D dynamic models, indicating that the primary focus remains on the transition of avatar faces.
