IU and ‘Dark IU’ BIBI: Most Searched on Melon in the First Half of the Year

According to their analysis of data from the first half of this year, Melon, a popular music platform, revealed on the 11th that the top searched song by users was BIBI’s “BIBI Vengeance,” while the most searched artist was IU.

During the given time frame, Melon played a collective total of 5.84 million songs by 620,000 artists. Based on an assumed average runtime of 3 minutes per song, this equates to a total of 1.07 billion hours of music being played.

On April 5, the day when cherry blossoms were in full bloom nationwide, Melon recorded its highest number of daily streams with a staggering 132.42 million. The following highest streaming day was May 3, the beginning of the Golden Week holiday, with a total of 131.51 million streams.

In the category of Million Albums in the ‘Melon’s Hall of Fame’, which measures streaming numbers within the first 24 hours of release, the virtual idol PLAVE made a notable impact. PLAVE’s second mini-album ‘Asterum: 134-1’ achieved the highest number of streams among all Million Albums in the first half of the year. Furthermore, the title track ‘Wait for Love’ had an impressive 104 million streams.

In the first half of this year, IU was the most searched artist and achieved a top spot on the monthly chart in February with her pre-release track “Love Wins All”from her sixth mini-album ‘The Winning.’ This album marked IU’s first release in her 30s. Additionally, BIBI, also known as “Dark IU,”gained significant recognition with her release “BIBI Vengeance”in February, which topped the monthly chart in March and continued to attract attention.

In May, Zico’s “Spot!”featuring BLACKPINK member Jennie topped the monthly chart, as multiple popular artists made their comebacks. Similarly, in June, aespa’s first full-length album, which included the double title track “Supernova”, also took the top spot on the monthly chart for the final month of the first half of the year.
