It appears that Jake Paul’s venture into mixed martial arts (MMA) has concluded prematurely, as his contract with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) has reportedly expired without him participating in a single fight. After initially signing with the PFL three years ago, expectations were high for his professional MMA debut, but those prospects have seemingly evaporated.
In January 2023, Paul signed a multi-year contract with the PFL, which included plans for him to fight in the promotion’s newly established ‘Super Fight’ division. This division was designed to offer more flexible weight classes and better payment opportunities for fighters involved in Pay-Per-View events.
Contract Expiration: A Missed Opportunity
According to renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani, during his broadcast on January 21, 2026, the partnership between Jake Paul and the PFL has officially ended. Helwani stated, “Whatever affiliation, business-wise or not, that Jake Paul and his team had with the PFL, I’m hearing that that is no more.”

Neither Jake Paul nor the PFL have publicly commented on this situation following Helwani’s announcement. This news comes shortly after Donn Davis, the founder and chairman of the PFL, departed from the organization.
Initially, Paul had shown interest in a potential MMA matchup against fellow fighter Nate Diaz, even engaging in some kickboxing sessions publicly. However, that ambition was diverted into a boxing match, which Paul won by decision. Furthermore, there were discussions about bringing Oleksandr Usyk, the current boxing heavyweight champion, into the MMA fold, but those plans ultimately dissolved as well.
Despite Paul’s absence from the MMA scene, he has remained active in boxing, facing off against multiple high-profile opponents, including a notable bout against boxing legend Mike Tyson streamed on Netflix. Throughout this period, the PFL maintained hope for Paul’s participation in MMA.

On November 15, 2024, Jake Paul faced off against one of boxing’s greatest legends.
PFL’s CEO Peter Murray had previously indicated that Paul would transition into the MMA cage in 2025, after concluding his boxing endeavors following the Tyson fight. However, these plans did not materialize, as Paul proceeded to box against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.before suffering a knockout loss to Anthony Joshua.
