The press conference for JTBC’s upcoming Sat-Sun drama “The Atypical Family”took place on April 2nd at Standford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Seoul. The event was attended by Jang Ki-yong, Chun Woo-hee, Soo-hyun, Park So-yi, and director Cho Hyun-tak.
“The Atypical Family”is a romantic fantasy film adapted from a webtoon, following the story of Bok Gwi-joo (Jang Ki-yong), a man with extraordinary powers that are lost due to a chronic illness. However, his fate takes a turn when he becomes entangled with Do Da-hae (Chun Woo-hee).
The drama has garnered significant interest as it marks Jang Ki-yong’s return to acting after completing his military service three years ago. He served as an active duty soldier from August 2021 to February of last year before being discharged. His previous project was the 2022 SBS drama “Now, We Are Breaking Up”, where he starred alongside Song Hye-kyo.
Recounting his emotions during the press conference, Jang Ki-yong shared, “Reflecting on my 20s, I was constantly busy. However, I finally took a much-needed one and a half year break. After completing my military service and returning to work, I felt a newfound sense of stability.”
The actor discussed the changes that occurred during the military hiatus, stating that in the past, he always felt like he was being pursued and rushed. However, while preparing for this drama, he experienced a sense of calmness and tranquility for the first time. He was able to take his time and enjoy a more leisurely pace.
Jang Ki-yong cited the script’s fascinating storyline as the main factor behind his decision to make “The Atypical Family”his comeback project. He expressed his belief that this drama would allow him to showcase a surprising and unpredictable performance.
JTBC’s latest drama, “The Atypical Family,”is set to debut on May 4th at 10:30 p.m. as a Sat-Sun series.
