Japanese Twitch Star Gains Subscriber Surge After Cheating Confession

<p>Junichi Kato, widely recognized as ‘Unko-chan,’ has become one of Japan’s most notable Twitch streamers, recently causing a stir by admitting to infidelity in his marriage. Surprisingly, instead of facing a backlash, Kato was inundated with new subscriptions following his revelation.

With over one million followers, Kato also plays a significant role within the esports community, having established his own gaming team that competes across various titles.

During a live stream on September 14, Kato openly confessed to cheating on his wife, an admission that surprised both him and his viewers.

In an unexpected turn of events, rather than losing fans, he witnessed a surge in subscriptions as his chat exploded with laughter and subscription notifications.

“I had an affair,” Kato stated, visibly astonished. “My subscriber count is rising right now. I’m terrible, right? Don’t you all think I’m awful? I lied and deceived women. Let me say it multiple times: I lied and deceived multiple women and had affairs.”

“I’m awful. I sincerely apologize,” he added.

Before this live stream, rumors circulated that Kato had traveled to the United States with another Twitch streamer.

The woman involved in the alleged affair addressed the situation in a YouTube video, where she expressed her regret and explained that Kato had misled her by claiming to be divorced, which led to their relationship.

“Initially, I didn’t trust him, but after several inquiries, he insisted he was already divorced,” she revealed. “After a few more meetings, we started dating. I was worried about potential rumors of his infidelity, but eventually, we entered into a relationship.”

She further disclosed her emotional turmoil due to Kato’s reluctance to go public about their relationship and his supposed divorce, leading to multiple breakups and significant distress.

“I consulted with others and realized that isolating myself would only worsen the situation, so I decided to accept Kato’s invitation and see him again. I apologize to my then-boyfriend,”she mentioned.

The Twitch streamer who confessed to having an affair with Junichi Kato issued an apology to her audience through a YouTube video.

During his stream, Kato also expressed remorse towards the other streamer involved and urged his followers not to “attack” her for his missteps.

“I apologize,” he stated. “It’s all my responsibility. Attacking her is unjust. I’m the one who erred. From now on, I will assert myself.”

On September 15, Kato shared a tweet addressing the situation and emphasized that he would not comment further on the matter.

“I will not engage in infidelity again, so please refrain from discussing this in the news,” he wrote. “I will not offer any further comments about the woman involved. I regret my actions.”

Kato is known for having live streamed his wedding in March 2022, achieving a staggering 463,646 concurrent viewers on YouTube and 111,196 on Twitch.

Interestingly, he is not the first streamer to publicly broadcast their wedding only to experience a separation shortly thereafter. Other Twitch streamers, such as Natsumiii and BaboAbe, also streamed their weddings in November 2022 but parted ways within a year.
