On December 29, SBS reported an unsettling incident aboard Jeju Air flight 7C2216, which was traveling from Bangkok to Muan. A passenger, referred to as A, recounted their alarming experience upon boarding.

Unexpected Silence and Darkness

A reported that as passengers entered the aircraft, they were suddenly met with an unusual silence when the engine noise ceased abruptly. Simultaneously, the cabin lights flickered off, prompting immediate concern among travelers. When A sought clarification from flight attendants, they were simply assured that there was no cause for alarm, leaving many still apprehensive.

Intermittent Issues Throughout Boarding

Even after all passengers were secured in their seats, the sporadic loss of engine sound and cabin lighting continued, raising eyebrows among passengers. Many sought additional information from crew members regarding the unsettling occurrence, yet detailed explanations remained elusive.

Delayed Departure and Flight Duration

Despite the initial disruptions, the flight ultimately continued as planned, albeit with a significant delay. Initially scheduled for departure at 1:30 a.m., the flight took off just after 2:30 a.m., landing at Muan Airport around 9 a.m. Passengers faced a lengthy and anxious six-hour wait prior to their arrival.

Aircraft Details and Jeju Air’s Response

The aircraft in question, a Boeing 737-800 registered as HL8088, is 15 years old and had its first flight in August 2009. Jeju Air incorporated this model into its fleet in February 2017. In light of the incident, Jeju Air has categorically denied the allegations of an engine shutdown. They have indicated that all maintenance documentation and relevant details have been provided to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport for review.

Recurring Patterns Noted

It was further confirmed that, similar to the flight two days prior, today’s departure from Bangkok also occurred later than planned, suggesting a potential issue with scheduling or operational factors impacting these flights.
