Jujutsu Kaisen: Akutami’s Latest Reveal Ruins the Wholesome Moment Between Gojo and Yuji

On Monday, May 28, 2024, Gege Akutami’s original manga series Jujutsu Kaisen released its latest installment. The previous issue had hinted at the comeback of the beloved character Satoru Gojo, causing much anticipation among fans. While some were hesitant, there were also fans who held onto the hope that Gojo had truly made a comeback.

Despite fans’ predictions, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261 revealed that they were only partially correct. The chapter unveiled that Yuta Okkotsu had indeed taken control of Gojo’s body using Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique, as evidenced by the familiar stitches on Gojo’s forehead that were also present on Geto’s body.

Furthermore, the most recent chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen delved into the complete origins of this plan and how it was formed, exposing the fact that Yuta had discussed it with almost everyone except the main character Yuji Itadori. As a result, this flashback has completely destroyed what was previously considered one of the most heartwarming moments between Gojo and Yuji, and potentially the final one as well.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Impact of Chapter 261 and the Future of Gojo and Yuji’s Relationship

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 222, Yuji and his fellow Tokyo Jujutsu High students gather to bid Gojo farewell as he prepares to face Sukuna. As they discuss how to best support Gojo, they struggle to come up with the perfect words of encouragement.

As Gojo walked out, his expression was stern and serious, clearly reflecting his contemplation of the daunting task ahead and the consequences of failure. Kinji Hakari, Maki Zen’in, and Yuta, who had all been part of the discussion about Yuta’s plan, also appeared nervous and concerned.

Despite his confusion, Gojo takes off his jacket after Jujutsu Kaisen protagonist Yuji Itadori approaches him and explains that his Infinity Cursed Technique is in the way. With encouragement from Yuji and the others, Gojo tells him to give it his best shot and walks by as they slap him on the back for good luck.

Undoubtedly, it is a truly heartwarming moment that showcases the deep affection between Yuji and Gojo, as well as their strong bond, while also highlighting Yuji’s significance among his comrades. However, when looking back at the full context, this scene becomes alarming as Yuji remains unaware of the true repercussions of Gojo’s defeat and the underlying tension among everyone present.

Upon further reflection, fans have deemed this particular scene as one of the most emotional and intense in the series. It is understandable why, given the context of the situation. This may have been the final conversation between Yuji Itadori and Gojo for everyone else, except for Yuji. Despite the characters’ awareness of the potential consequences, they all remained optimistic and trusted in Gojo’s abilities.

Despite the serious mood, no one, not even Gojo, explains to Yuji why the scene is so challenging. Gojo, who is clearly trying to maintain Yuji’s optimistic demeanor, acquiesces to his request in an effort to calm everyone down, adding another layer to their interaction.

Despite this, there is no guarantee that this will be the final encounter between Toji Fushiguro and Suguru Geto. Numerous fan theories suggest that Gojo may return due to the soul-based abilities demonstrated by Toji and Suguru during the Shibuya arc. However, even if Gojo were to make a comeback, the significance of this scene will be forever altered, as the memories and events that followed will always be associated with it.
