Jujutsu Kaisen fans divided as author promises ‘even more deaths’

Jujutsu Kaisen fans mourned the death of several main characters, but it’s not over: because the author “doesn’t care” how dark the story can get.

The dark fantasy world of Jujutsu Kaisen comes from the mind of one of the most brutal authors known: Gege Akutami has a reputation for do not hesitate to get rid of its characters, appreciated or not by the community. And the fans’ favorites paid the price, between Gojo, Nanami and Nobara.

The final chapters of the manga continued to head down the path of slaughter, as the battle against Sukuna and Kenjaku reached its climax. The exorcists and their allies are falling like flies, and it seems that the mere fact of wanting to set foot in no man’s land means agreeing to sacrifice oneself.

Readers and spectators knew it, however: the story of Jujutsu Kaisen is ruthless. But witnessing the fall of Satoru Gojo was the last straw for many. And yet! It seems that the author is far from finished with his fans. The latter have just released an interview with the author in 2021, and it clearly does not bode well for the casting.

Gege Akutami “doesn’t care” who dies in Jujutsu Kaisen

As shared by renowned leaker Myamura, Gege Akutami gave an interview to Kendo Kobayashi in 2021 in which he stated that: he “didn’t care” which character died: as long as the story continues to interest fans, the deaths don’t matter.

“Gege Akutami (2021): “I don’t care who dies, as long as the story is interesting. No matter how dark the story gets.» / Killing all the characters is not particularly “interesting” “

Even though it was almost three years old, the statement went viral after being unearthed. And according to posts on social networks, Gege Akutami’s fans don’t really agree with him. The majority of the community seems to believe that killing characters will not make the story more interesting. Others, on the other hand, defended the mangaka’s choices.

“If killing every character made a story interesting, then Akame Ga Kill would be a masterpiece.”

“Killing off characters without giving them time to be developed is not interesting in my opinion. That said, I’m not saying that every character’s death is unnecessary.”

The fear is palpable among Jujutsu Kaisen fans: because the author will not hesitate, if necessary, to even get rid of his main character< a i=2>. Already badly mistreated in the manga and the anime, Yuji Itadori was quite neglected in the last chapters of the manga, while much more powerful characters kept the spotlight on them.

The same went for Satoru Gojo, who quickly became fans’ most beloved character as the story progressed. However, the author continued to publicly lower him to the rank of “secondary character” , before getting rid of him: first momentarily with the Edge of Torment, then definitively under the blows of Makora and Sukuna.

Clearly, Jujutsu Kaisen readers have not finished experiencing trauma. But the story and its outcome seem worth it, especially according to the manga’s editor, to whom the author has already revealed everything.
