Jujutsu Kaisen fans don’t know what to do after the series ends and it’s concerning

The latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, 261, hinted at the possible ultimate battle between the King of Curses and Gojo, whose body has been taken over by Yuta. As Sukuna finds himself facing the person he had previously defeated, fans are left wondering what the finale of this manga will bring.

Although some fans are also reading other popular manga series such as One Piece and My Hero Academia, the bigger concern is where the dedicated fans of Jujutsu Kaisen will turn once the series reaches its climax. Many of these fans may have joined the manga community solely for Jujutsu Kaisen, so it is uncertain what they will do once the series concludes.

Fans may have concerns as few series have garnered the same level of popularity and influence as Gege Akutami’s manga. As a result, the conclusion of this series could potentially lead to a decrease in the fanbase or a shift towards other highly anticipated series, possibly on par with or slightly below the hype surrounding the story of Itadori Yuji.

During the Jump Festa 2024, Gege Akutami announced that his highly acclaimed work would conclude by December 2024. This suggested that the series may have already entered its final saga, as the Shinjuku Showdown arc was still ongoing at the time of the announcement.

The arc began when Gojo Satoru was freed from the Prison Realm and issued a challenge to the King of Curses. It kicked off with a showdown between two of the most powerful sorcerers of all time: Gojo, the strongest sorcerer of the present, and Sukuna, who possessed Megumi’s cursed technique.

At the beginning of the fight, Gojo made a flashy entrance, and the lead constantly changed between the two combatants in each chapter. However, in chapter 221, fans were surprised by a strange sight – Gojo sitting among deceased sorcerers.

Throughout the arc, numerous sorcerers took turns challenging Sukuna. From Kashimo and Higuruma to Maki, Kusakabe, Miguel, Yuta, and the series’ central protagonist, Itadori Yuji, each one gave their all in an attempt to defeat him. As the battle with the King of Curses raged on, he mercilessly took the lives of one sorcerer after another, until finally reaching chapter 260 where a mysterious figure emerged.

Yuta Okkotsu had possessed Gojo Satoru’s body using Kenjaku’s cursed technique. Sukuna pushed Itadori aside, signaling the beginning of round 2 in the battle between the two strongest opponents. As Sukuna is currently at his weakest point in the series, it is believed that his final showdown against Yuta (Gojo) may be approaching.

As December 2024 approaches, Gege Akutami’s magnum opus is coming to a close, but fans are also beginning to worry about finding a new series to enjoy after Jujutsu Kaisen.

Why is this concerning?

As most manga series have reached their final chapters, numerous popular Shounen titles may also come to an end in the near future. One Piece recently began its final saga with the Egghead arc, while the final war arc of My Hero Academia concluded in the previous chapter and may conclude in the next few chapters.

Despite the rise of some relatively new series such as Sakamoto Days, Kagurabachi, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, and Kaiju no. 8, none have gained the same level of popularity as Jujutsu Kaisen. This series, created by Gege Akutami, has even surpassed some of the biggest manga giants in current trends. While these newer series are speculated to potentially become the new face of manga, none have yet reached the level of success achieved by Akutami’s masterpiece.

As a result, fans may either demand that Gege Akutami write a sequel to his manga series, causing an uproar, or those who joined the community solely for Jujutsu Kaisen may choose to leave for good.

Concluding Remarks

During a Japanese TV program on June 4, 2024, it was announced that a representative from Shueisha expressed interest in having Kagurabachi lead the next generation of Jump (Shounen Jump). While this was not an official statement, it holds significant weight as the current era of Shounen Jump is coming to an end.

Additionally, upcoming titles such as Blue Box, RuriDragon, and Akanebanashi show great potential for success. While it may be difficult to find a new series to follow after Jujutsu Kaisen concludes, there are numerous options available for fans to choose from.
