Jujutsu Kaisen fans find Nanami in SpongeBob SquarePants in a way no one expected

While Jujutsu Kaisen and Spongebob SquarePants may seem completely unrelated, they do share one common aspect – they are both anime from different genres that cannot be connected in any way.

Both series follow different protagonists, with the former focusing on Itadori Yuji’s journey as a cursed spirit hunter and his struggles against the cursed spirit residing within him, Ryomen Sukuna. The latter, on the other hand, revolves around a carefree sponge who resides in the sea and spends his days making burgers and irritating his neighbor, a squid.

Despite the serious tone of the series, X user (@JJKcontents) has made a humorous claim connecting the two shows and their beloved characters. They pointed out the striking resemblance between a character from the Nickelodeon series and Kento Nanami from the MAPPA series, causing quite a stir among the fandom. Many are now speculating that this could be the much-awaited return of the character, who had met his demise during the Shibuya arc.

Fans’ Reactions to Nanami’s Cameo in Spongebob SquarePants

During a scene in Spongebob SquarePants, the X user noticed a character conversing with Mr. Krabs, the owner of the Krusty Krab, while standing in the restaurant where Spongebob is employed.

The character in the tweet had a striking resemblance to Kento Nanami, a first-grade sorcerer from Jujutsu Kaisen. Their appearance, with formal clothing and glasses, was unmistakably similar to Nanami’s trademark look as he is often seen hunting cursed spirits in such attire.

As predicted, the tweet quickly gained popularity hours after it was shared. While most of the fanbase saw this as the reincarnation of their beloved Jujutsu Kaisen character, a few fans were skeptical about the existence of such a character in the real world.

Despite Mahito’s attempt to kill him during the Shibuya arc, the fandom couldn’t contain their excitement upon seeing their beloved character return. Many even saw it as his reincarnation. Additionally, some members of the fandom playfully joked that this was Nanami’s second job, as he had previously considered leaving Jujutsu High just moments before his apparent death.

“After losing his job at Jujutsu went to work at SpongeBob”another fan claimed.

However, some of the fandom were in disbelief that a character so similar to Nanami actually existed and wondered if it was the work of a fan.

After being inspired by both Nanami from Jujutsu Kaisen and Nemo from Finding Nemo, some fans started referring to this character as ‘Nemi-mi’ or ‘Nemo-mi’. Given the underwater setting of this Nickelodeon series, it seemed fitting to name the character after the beloved children’s film.

Finally, a fan interpreted the location of this Nickelodeon near Kuantan, Malaysia as the setting for the show. It was on Nanami’s bucket list to visit Malaysia before he passed away. Although he never got the chance to visit, it is believed that he imagined visiting a beach in Malaysia before his death. Fans are now playfully speculating that after his imaginary beach visit, Nanami entered the fictional world of Bikini Bottom, where the Nickelodeon series is set.

Concluding Remarks

It is exciting to witness official character crossovers that are not created by fans. Despite the lack of connection between this Nickelodeon series character and Nanami, fans deemed it significant enough to dub it the reincarnation of the legendary first-grade sorcerer.

As the anime tackles the Culling Game arc, Itadori and the remaining members of Nanami’s group are about to face intense challenges.
