Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen offered many highlights to spectators: we offer you our list of the 7 saddest moments.
The plot of Jujutsu Kaisen was captivating from the start, even to the point of attracting viewers who had never watched other anime. If the first season mainly served to introduce the universe and its main characters, season 2 was responsible for crushing the hearts of fans by getting rid of a few beloved heroes.
In addition to the death of popular characters, season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen also presented events or twists capable of shaking its viewers. We offer you our list of the most heartbreaking moments.
The Assassination of Stellar Plasma
Riko Amanai, the Stellar Plasma, was a crucial character in Gojo’s past arc. Her fate was decided from the start as she was chosen to merge with Master Tengen. The latter has always been the protector of the mysterious world of jujutsu exorcists, but this requires the absorption of a Stellar Plasma every 500 years, to extend his life expectancy.
Geto and Gojo were given the responsibility of escorting Riko safely to Tengen. If at first, the young girl had agreed to sacrifice her life, she finally changed her mind once she arrived at Tengen’s house. But while the spectators were celebrating the idea that she could live the life of her choice, Riko was shot in the head by Toji Fushiguro.
Satoru Gojo is sealed
Satoru Gojo is one of the most powerful exorcists in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe – and the scourges know it. They then came up with a plan to seal him inthe Edge of Torment. The process required many sacrifices on their part, but the trap finally closed on the exorcist.
The plagues forced Gojo to go to Shibuya Station, to be safe. It took Mahito’s Alteration to transform many humans, distracting Gojo and limiting his innate technique. If Yuji’s mentor managed to eliminate a few of Kenjaku’s henchmen, he was still fooled by his adversaries.
Before Gojo can step back, he encounters Kenjaku, sporting Geto’s appearance. The exorcist quickly understands that it is no longer his former comrade, in a terrible scene.
Nanami’s tragic death
Like Gojo, Nanami is one of the characters appreciated by a large part of Jujutsu Kaisen fans. Particularly because he was Yuji Itadori’s mentor and never hesitated to suffer injuries to protect his students… which actually cost him his life.
The first class exorcist was burned alive by the volcano-headed scourge, Jogo. But he was able to get up, and then set out to find Megumi to help him against Toji. Unfortunately, Nanami will never succeed in joining the high school student, because her path will cross that of Mahito.
Its end is all the more brutal as it takes place before the eyes of the hero Yuji Itadori. His last words are addressed to his former student, telling him that he is counting on him for the future.
La mort violente de Nobara Kugisaki
Nobara and Yuji form a solid duo, based on trust and a touch of humor. Obviously, Jujutsu Kaisen fans appreciated this synergy between the two characters. But season 2 decided to put an end to it.
While Yuji recovers with difficulty from Nanami’s death and launches into battle against Mahito, Nobara also finds herself involved: her help is even very precious for the young man, as is often the case. Unfortunately, it didn’t last.
Making the young girl believe that she was rushing towards a harmless clone, Mahito managed to touch Nobara, permanently altering her soul. Like Nanami, the young girl collapsed before Yuji’s eyes, plunging him into despair.
Yuji Itadori considers himself a murderer
After the loss of Nanami and Nobara, Yuji struggles to stay the course. And whilehe is going through an intense moment of despair, Mahito seizes the opportunity to kill him. Without the arrival of Aoi Todo on the scene, the hero of Jujutsu Kaisen probably would not have survived.
When the exorcist asks the boy to fight alongside him, the latter collapses, explaining that he wanted to save people to redeem himself, without success. He then considers himself a simple murderer.
Todo’s arm is cut
Aoi Todo’s technique is unique, and allowed some brilliant sequences in the anime Jujutsu Kaisen. Boogie Woogie fits his eccentric personality perfectly, allowing him to trade places with anyone or anything as long as he has some of his occult energy there. His confrontation with Mahito was the occasion for a masterfully animated scene, bringing lightness, hope and epicness to the tragic end of season 2.
However, it is also this fight which marks the end of Todo’s technique. Because Mahito manages to reach the exorcist, who has no other solution than to cut off his hand to avoid alteration of his soul, and therefore his death.
Sukuna causes mass destruction
Season 2 has not been kind to the hero of Jujutsu Kaisen. Between Nanami’s death and Nobara’s, the situation already seems hopeless. But the high school student actually had to face more shocking moments.
When the young man loses his fight against Choso, he cannot resist when he is forced to ingest several fingers of Sukuna. The king of plagues then takes control, and is unleashed: he kills with all his might, and faces two formidable enemies. First Jogo, then Makora. These two battles will result in the destruction of Shibuya and the annihilation of its inhabitants..
When Sukuna finally frees Yuji, amused in advance by his distress, the young man is confronted with the scale of the disaster in a heartbreaking scene.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has ended, but Season 3 has already been announced. And the Murderous Hunt arc which will soon be adapted also promises its share of terrible moments.
