Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 258 unveiled Ui Ui’s ability to swap souls, leaving fans curious as to why he is unable to swap the souls of Sukuna and Megumi.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 222 contained a few intriguing panels that caused confusion initially. These panels portrayed Yuji and Kusakabe appearing to have exchanged their bodies. However, it was not until Chapter 258 that the enigma was finally explained.
In Chapter 258 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Ui Ui disclosed his ability to transfer souls between two bodies without altering their form. This revelation opens up the possibility of him using this power to switch the soul inside Megumi’s body with another one.
Despite its potential to solve one of the biggest issues in Jujutsu Kaisen, there is a significant obstacle preventing Ui Ui from using his soul swapping ability on Sukuna and Megumi – the fact that Sukuna controls Megumi’s body.
Why can’t Ui use soul swapping on Sukuna and Megumi in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Ui Ui is unable to use soul swapping on Sukuna and Megumi due to the immense strength of Sukuna’s soul. Touching his soul could prove fatal for Ui Ui, making it a risk he is not willing to take.
The soul swapping technique permits Ui Ui to exchange souls twice per individual within a month. This presents an opportunity for him to potentially switch the souls between Megumi and another person, such as Yuji. Megumi may even consent to this if Yuji is able to make contact with him again.
Despite the benefits of soul swapping, the biggest obstacle is Sukuna’s powerful soul. If Ui Ui were to come into contact with it, he would be instantly overpowered and unable to compete. The sheer strength of Sukuna’s soul would make it impossible for Ui Ui to displace it.
The main support for this theory is found in the moment when Mahito encountered Sukuna’s soul in the earlier events of the story. Despite being an arrogant and immature curse, Mahito immediately realized his mistake. This was confirmed by Sukuna’s merciless attacks on Mahito.
Therefore, if Ui Ui were to successfully touch Sukuna’s soul, it is highly probable that the King of Curses would eliminate him before he could execute the swap. In fact, Sukuna would willingly do so, considering Ui Ui’s use of his teleportation ability to transport the injured during the Shinjuku Showdown.
It’s unlikely that Megumi could be saved by the soul swapping technique in Jujutsu Kaisen. Yet, we can never be sure of what twists and turns Gege Akutami may have planned for his characters.
