JYP Scouted Idol: Rising Star Discovered in a Bathroom

Suzy skyrocketed to fame. What was her journey into the world of entertainment?

Born in Gwangju in 1994, Suzy’s entrance into the entertainment realm began in 2009 when a talent scout from JYP discovered her while she was on her way to the restroom. Although she passed the preliminary round for the Gwangju segment of Superstar K, she was ultimately cut from the competition. Remarkably, the JYP official lingered for eight hours, trying to convince her to join the agency.

At that time, JYP selected talent based on dancing, singing, or looks, but Suzy uniquely excelled in all three categories, making her a standout candidate.

Even as a child, Suzy was admired for her stunning looks. By the 8th grade, she was already working part-time as a model for online shopping as her mature looks led many to wrongly assume she was a high school student. This led to her receiving offers from modeling agencies up to three times a day.

After a swift four-day audition process, she signed a contract with JYP Entertainment and officially embarked on her entertainment career.

As is often said, jewels shine brightly everywhere. Suzy has made her return with the Coupang Play series “Anna”and will soon grace the screen in “Wonderland,”a project that boasts a star-studded cast including Tang Wei, Gong Yoo, Jung Yoo-mi, Park Bo-gum, and Choi Woo-sik.
