K-drama fans feel Hierarchy wasted chemistry between two main actors

“The characters of He-ra and Woo-jin, who held a hierarchical relationship, were unexpectedly a main focus for fans who believed that the chemistry between the actors was not fully utilized on screen.”

Despite the main focus being on Kang Ha’s revenge and the complicated love triangle involving Jae-i and Ri-an, viewers were also captivated by the relationship between He-ra and Woo-jin. Despite being close friends for years, He-ra’s unrequited feelings for Ri-an always added an extra layer of intrigue.

Meanwhile, Woo-jin’s secret relationship with his teacher was starting to go downhill. The situation took a turn in Episode 4 when He-ra pays a visit to Woo-jin. He found himself taken aback by her appearance and ended up receiving a kiss on the cheek.

Woo-jin’s one-sided love was ignited by their encounter. As Hierarchy continued, the bond between the two characters grew stronger, with Woo-jin going to great lengths to shield He-ra from the consequences of the whodunit plot.

Viewers witnessed the chemistry between the characters, but were disappointed when Hierarchy disregarded the potential for a positive secondary romance.

“One fan on X/Twitter remarked that the chemistry between them was so strong, they should have been made into a couple.”

Many others also commented on the belief that the two characters would become the main couple, citing evidence from the trailers.

“It’s ironic that prior to the release, many of us believed that Woojin and Hera made a strong and dynamic couple, but it was eventually revealed that Woojin only had unrequited feelings for Hera. Nevertheless, their chemistry was still remarkable and they truly carried the entire show,”said the fan, according to a tweet.

Fans are overwhelmingly in favor of He-ra and Woo-jin being a couple, with one fan expressing their desire for more screen time for the pair in season 2. They believe that the chemistry between the two characters is what sets the drama apart.

One of the primary reasons why viewers believed that Hye-ri and Woo-jin’s on-screen chemistry was not utilized effectively is because of another key factor.

One fan, who shared a TikTok video edit uncovering that the actors had previously starred in another K-drama together, expressed disappointment at how they saw the potential but allowed their chemistry to go to waste.

Ji Hye-won and Lee Won-jung were both featured in the time travel K-drama My Perfect Stranger, where their on-screen roles happened to be students.

Ji is portrayed as a sentimental and innocent teenager who becomes intrigued by Lee’s brooding and guarded personality. Their relationship follows the classic trope of a good girl falling for a bad boy.

While second-lead romances are a common occurrence in K-dramas, fans were disappointed when Hierarchy did not develop the relationship between He-ra and Woo-jin beyond just friendship.

Netflix offers a hierarchy feature where viewers can access a larger selection of K-dramas with comparable plotlines to Hierarchy. Additionally, the secret code is available to unlock Netflix’s entire K-drama catalog, as well as new series for streaming in the current month.
