K-Media Conveys Regrets on Kang Daniel’s ‘Failure’ Despite Being Top Idol 5 Years Ago

If Kang Daniel had made a different choice 5 years ago, how would things have turned out differently?

In an article, a reporter shared their remorse upon witnessing the downfall of the idol’s career, which was once filled with immense promise as one of the top stars in 2019.

On May 22, The Fact reported on Kang Daniel’s current situation following his decision to file a criminal complaint against the main shareholder of KONNECT Entertainment, the agency he established five years ago.

The shareholder was sued on multiple charges, including forgery of private documents, breach of trust, embezzlement, and fraud in the use of computers, as well as infringement on information and communication networks.

As a consequence, numerous employees were let go and chose to leave, and artists who were signed under the label, including former GFriend members and soloist Yuju, also parted ways with the company. Essentially, the company is no longer in operation.

Despite being a top-tier K-pop idol from way back, Kang Daniel was left behind in the music scene, causing The Fact to reflect on what went wrong with his effort and hard work amidst all of these disputes.

Reflecting on the past, Kang Daniel’s successful journey began with his appearance on Mnet’s reality competition, “Produce 101″Season 2 in 2017. He solidified his fan base by achieving the top rank and ultimately debuted as the center of Wanna One.

Despite their disbandment in 2019, at the time they were on par with BTS and EXO.

Despite his group’s unfortunate disbandment, Kang Daniel’s rise to stardom only continued to grow stronger in the same year, as he launched his own label, KONNECT, and embarked on a successful solo career.

In that same year, his career reached its pinnacle with the release of his debut solo album, “Color on Me,”which garnered sales of approximately 500,000 copies. It was the 7th highest-selling album of 2019 and he was closely behind EXO Baekhyun, who claimed the 6th spot with only a 20,000 copy difference in solo album sales.

Kang Daniel’s popularity and influence were unmatched to that degree.

What exactly caused the issue?

The media outlet also noted that his artistic growth was hindered by his increasing responsibilities after opening his own company.

During a crucial period in his career, Kang Daniel faced the challenge of expanding his career without a structured system or strong support from the CEO of his own label.

“…His influence is not as strong as before. In such a situation, Kang Daniel, as the company’s representative, had to take on the role of recruiting various artists and supporting their activities. Even though he was just starting in society, he was carrying too much burden at a critical time when he needed to be cared for by someone.”

The information was added:

“As a result, Kang Daniel’s establishment and operation of his agency ended in failure. His progress as an artist was not satisfactory. It is also a regret of what it would have been like if he had grown as a solo artist with a systematic system and support at that point five years ago.

Nevertheless, his outstanding skills and potential still raise expectations for his future actions.”
